Hello there, i'm new to the forum but i've been reading a lot, still got some questions. I've been reading that there are 2 new nails coming the precise 3 and the synoste, i would like to know what is better compared to previous nails and also someone mentioned full weight bearing, what does that exactly mean?

Hi Billie,

I'm not sure about the status of Synoste; but I am currently a patient who is using the latest technology precise 3, which is also known as the Stryde Nail.

The nail allows me to stand up on my legs with 100% of my weight.  Previous nails required you to push down on the walker and use alternate modes of assistance while walking in order to displace your body weight.  Too much weight on the older Precise nails could cause the nail to break inside of you.

My experience with Stryde so far has been excellent.  I can fully weight bear which is going to help me speed along in my recovery as soon as I'm able to tolerate the pain that comes with full weight bearing.   I had surgery only 17 days ago.

Synoste was recently sold to a US company that makes medical devices for $23.5 million. Hopefully Globus can commercialize this and we can see if it has benefits over Stryde. Its always good to have innovation through more competition.

Very interesting I had no idea there was another company making the latest internal nails. Of course it looks like they have a ways to go, but like you said it will be great for competition which is typically good for everyone involved.

I searched the forum and Kilokhan mentions Doctor Parihar talking about the Finland internal nail. Does anyone think they will be closer to releasing it? Doctor Parihar said back in 2014 that the invebtors appeared open minded about allowing Pitkar company that makes the Ilizarov frame parts in India to produce the nail to lower cost. If it has been sold to company in US then that is probably not happening but it would be nice for that as an alternate nail now that Stryde is having problems.

As alternate note, why is Doctor Amar Sarin the only one in the world using this hydraulic nail from Europe? If it is weight bearing can other doctors use it?

There is nothing Synoste can do that Stryde hasn't already done. Synoste has been in trials for years now. Nuvasive is a better company with a better nail in all aspects with much better results and history.

Sarin is a butcher that cripplied dozens of people, that should tell you enough about the hydraulic nail.

Maybe their nail won't have bony abnormality like Stryde. Weight bearing is fine but if it turns out that these can be toxic then other nails should be looked at.

Sarin is bad but I have not seen any study about the hydraulic nail itself. Maybe it can be an option under a capable doctor?
