For those Who did externals/LON
« on: December 24, 2018, 06:40:17 PM »

Do you think that pins going throught muscles could cause muscle damage and permanent loss of function? With internals you avoid this problem . It is difficult to me to think that having pins going throught leg muscles is not going to have negative consecuences. Could someone Who has done Leg lengthening with externals/LON share his opinion? Cheers.

This is an important question that every LL patient must be aware of. It Will change completely the decision about what method we should use.

Im not a ll-vet but I do know the 'pins going thru the muscles' is avoided during the surgery. That's basic schooling at the surgery schools they receive. And especially at tibias its not that much of an issue when there is alrdy little soft tissue in the way. Bones are already quite exposed. I'd say if there are 10 pins total then probably only 3-4 would be going from muscle centers. som1 alrdy with illazarov can confirm.
