Hello, please help me.
« on: September 20, 2018, 06:51:34 PM »

Hello everyone, I really need your help so please help me if you can. I’m 21 years old and I’m 5’9 and I would love to be 6’2 and after some researching I came into the limb lengthening surgery but I read some horror things like the bones not growing up properly after the surgery and even damaging the nerves and losing the legs forever. I understand these are risks involved with the surgery but how much is true? What is your experience with this surgery, if you had it done? And what are the possibilities (how much out of 10) to end up having long term side effects from this surgery?

Long-term side effects are a guarantee 100%. But what type, really depends. depends on the specific procedure used, femur/tibia selection, doctor, pateint, and post op pt, diet and exercises. It all matters.

Can be as low as just loosing 5% of ur athleticism or as high as death (due to embolism)

Loosing the ability to walk forever is quite rare but it can happen in some cases where complications arise and a person stays on wheelchair for years. On the other hand satisfaction rate of cll is quite high, that should tell u something.

At 5'9" I would definitely NOT have this surgery.

You are of perfectly average hieght. Your height problems are in your head.

Do you live in the Netherlands? More somewhere else where people are shorter.

My diary. Tibias+femurs 3.75+3.75cm at the Paley Institute (5'5" -> 5'8") in my late 30s.
One of the last patients to use the PRECICE 2.2 nail. I met the first STRYDE patient and I strongly recommend the new STRYDE nail instead.

Do you think with external you would have been able to walk faster?

it's kind of rude to tell a dutch person to just up and move their life from their friends, family, and connections.

LMAO at moving abroad because of height, that's hilarious and weird as fk, only a lunatic would subject himself to such.
The risks are real so the best way to avoid them is to ensure you're doing this with a good doctor, well-known and with a positive success rate.
If you praise your athletic abilities very much maybe this procedure is not for you, once you do this, they won't ever be the same.. with hard work and a bit of luck you might come close to them though.
btw, don't listen to OverrideYourGenetics, he's just a guy whose height is 5'8 now and is trying to convince everybody else that it is a good stature to be just because he used to be 5'5 and is happy with his 3-inch boost. What he doesn't realise is that each one of us has different perspectives and aspirations and being below average is not satisfactory. And what is so laughable is taking his advice when he's done something pretty stupid as breaking both segments just for 3.75cm on each bone and with the PRECICE nail that isn't even fully weight bearing. Unbelievable.

i agree its quite subjective and being 5'8 is slighlty below average. every1 has the right to do this surgery tho. also the side-effects will be there either good doctor or bad and luck plays a role aswell. if ur so worried about life-long side effects dont dig into ur legs and bones, just break tibias externally and place illazarov (least invasive). still the side effects will come but will be minimum.

3.75 only on both seems fair. balances out both bones and is not high enough to cause life-long problems.
mind u when u break bones and stretch em out the nerves and musculature is not made to be stretched out artifically like that not even 1 cm. no1 still fully understands the extent of damage it causes to the human body, not just legs.

just under 4cm on both legs is a smart choice in terms of safety, but height satisfaction is subjective. For me I would bear a bit more consequences long-term such as compartment syndrome, permanent nerve and musculature pain, arthritis etc and trade in for something like 7-8 on a single segment.

I am of the opinion that if someone is gonna take the risk to do this might as well to be for a dramatic change. I am putting my welfare in jeopardy for something great, not to be average, fk average.
In spite of the complications that may arise, I do not think breaking both segments for just 3.75cm to be a wise choice let alone with the PRECICE nail when STRYDE has been launched and the price difference is minimal.
Paley and the likes mention that with the STRYDE nail femurs can be lengthened up to 8cm safely. Myself as a client I don't need to know all the facts and overthink the whole thing, I'm putting my money and my trust on a legitimate doctor and I'm expecting him to be in charge of the whole procedure and to keep myself safe and that's what I am paying him good money for in the first place.

wat we have in common is the tradeof pov which is " if we do this better be full or nothing, fck pain and complications". but its not surprising that alot of people go for the balanced tradeoff which is "il take some cm, settle in for average and suffer minor problems". Its all subjective in the end.

To me height is very important in todays  ty world, far outweighs all the problems and damages caused to the human body. Only permanent disability can outweigh that cause every1 knows ur not so tall in a fcking wheelchair.  ;D ;)

Being permanently disabled is not really among my concerns tbh. If you go to a reputable doctor I highly doubt he will mishandle your case to the extent you'll be in a wheelchair for the rest of your life..
My main concerns are that I won't be able to sprint ever again, swim, play a bit of sports or even have hardcore sxx with my gf because of unbearable pain..

That's my fear as well, I'd hate to get this surgery and then be completely incapable of lifting without unbearable pain.

well u can do some exercises like benchpress, hammer curls, work ur abs and arms. but deadlifts and weighted sqauts. u wont be able to do ever.

ur muscles would be artifically stretched and will hurt if u force them to work hard. permanent pain and discomfort forever 24/7 and definitely not being able to sprint ever in ur life. jog maybe. worthy trade off for some inches? i think yes.

Aren't your muscles stretching when you naturally grow up?  The only difference is that we stretch our muscles quickly compared to the natural slow growth. Please correct me if I am wrong
İ do think you can do deadlifts after 1,5-2 year if your surgery and recovery are successful. Surely , it will be weaker than your pre-LL ability to do squads and deadlifts. But it isn't logical to say you will never do

No. The muscles arent stretching when ur growing up. They are growing with u. just like ur heart, pancrease hands feet bones head skull lungs blood vessels nerves nails. the size is increasing its not stretching. completely different things.

stretched muscles and tight muscle is something else. when u open ur arm and extend it u are stretching the bicep muscle and tightening the tricep muscle. now the muscle is being stretched by ur nerves connected to ur spine/brain and its natural.

imagine something always keeping ur bicep/nerves stretched artificially and then u try to do normal movements of arm like extending and contracting to lift something or do other normal functions. now multiply that to thousands of days. arthritis, joint replacement, compartment syndrome, muscles fatiging, u not being able to use ur arms to lift basic loads etc etc etc... ur talking   loads of problems.

now if the recovery after surgery is full, the level of problems u will face later on will depend on the lengthening amount in other words the amount u have artificially stretched the muscle/nerves in trade off for aesthetics. simple

Thanks for the detailed explanation
I agree, If the lengthening amout is in normal range( around 5-6 cm) , i believe 85-90% recovery is smth possible within 2_3 years depending on patient's body reaction

So far İ haven't heard any permanent problem of ll if it is a success. At least, if joints would cause any further problems, dr paley or other experienced doctors warned about this before surgery

how many ppl u know in real life anyways who did ll. p.s why would the doctors want to harm their own business. they do warn not to go above 6-7 but thats as far as theyd go.

i know a guy in real life who did 9 cm and he cant walk now. he had joint replacement surgery too, still cant walk years after surgery. Another girl who did 7-8 aswell and she is surrounded by all these leg issues. alot of people/doctors here have agendas. even people who had the best recovery stil suffered from minor but permanent problems for life. weighed em too thin to mention vs actually achieving the aesthetic outcome they dreamt all their life. no doctor in the world will want u to not get sick, unless they r not true to their profession.

If that is how you feel, then I highly highly recommend you to not use this site. How would you be able to lie down on the surgery table if you think of your surgeon behind his mask a member of "no doctor in the world will want u to not get sick, unless they r not true to their profession". You might end up cancelling the surgery last minute and then again thinking about it for years.

If you stay on this site, you will neither get to courage to do LL nor have the courage to live life without LL. You will be stuck in a state of limbo. LL is for optimistic people. Try this exercise of never opening this website for a month. You might slow let go of the idea of LL.

Hello everyone, I really need your help so please help me if you can. 21 years old and 5’9” wanting to do this surgery? First maximize yourself in every aspect of your life and then see if height is really the only thing setting you back. You dont want to jump into such an invasive surgery and go through all the pain and suffering only to find out that extra height didnt change a thing. Long term side effects are a forsure thing especially if you lengthen more than 5-6cm per segment. Anybody that says other wise is a fool and very delusional. Soft tissue and nerves can only stretch so much. I did 4cm in tibia and 5cm in femur cross lateral. First segment i came out great! I was walking unassisted 5 months post surgery. 2nd segment didnt go too well. I was left with drop foot on the left foot due to nerve damage most likely caused by lengthening too much. Im 3 months post surgery and walking unassisted but i have to wear a special AFO brace to keep my foot from dragging.

why shouldn't I? I shouldnt do this surgery because i base my opnions on solid facts? im going into this surgery acknowledging those brute facts. why does everything need to be sugar coated and mixed with false? why not just the truth. going into it accepting that i could die aswell (due to embolism). im not a quitter mb u r the way u think. If u see a lion running towards u, u can just close ur eyes to calm urself but that wont stop the beast tho.

u got so sentimental for some reason so i had to ask are u a woman by any chance planing the surgery?

fact is if you do unilateral procedure on one section at a time (1 tibia, then other tibia in a different surgery) the risk of embolism would be so low that it is negligible. But I see most people value time>making risk of death from embolism negligible, which makes no sense to me.

So you know you will get life long complications, you have seen 2 patients one who had both his knees replaced, another one who is surrounded by all these "leg issues" and you still want to get LL? It just doesn't make sense. You think you will be more attractive 3 inches taller but with a cane in the hand?

And no, I'm not a woman. Not sure why that matters.  ???

as i mentioned they went beyond the safe limit. also bad luck. maybe i'l face lesser and minor complications hopefully. i'l gamble.
its like saying dont jump from the building it will hurt excruciatingly for a few seconds but if u have to suicide u must.

the way i perceived u in ur post reminded me of women. less reliant on facts and more emotional and sentimental. but nvm matterz not anyway.

You are being emotional. You claim to know that doctors are cold hearted money making machines and the life long complications of LL are guaranteed. You still want to do LL because your sentimental side kicks in and you can't accept being short  :'( :'( :'(

And you are comparing LL to suicide. Way to go! I wish good luck with your LL, recovery, meeting women and life ahead  8)

And you are comparing LL to suicide. Way to go! I wish good luck with your LL, recovery, meeting women and life ahead  8)

note: (i do feel ur a woman and my last comment somehow got u butthurt for some unknown godforsaken womanish reason and its hilariously amusing to me) thats all.

if ur not then read on.

do u even read wat u say. its all bull****. eye opener. ur a bull****er prob.

"You are being emotional. You claim to know that doctors are cold hearted money making machines"
U think using adhominems will make ur arguement valid somehow.where was i ever emotional. i never said cold-hearted. i said they want money. If ur IQ is so below the sub-standard level i shouldn't even be explaining this, but wth.

" You still want to do LL because your sentimental side kicks in and you can't accept being short  :'( :'( :'( "
Are u so stupid so as to relate everything to sentiment? tell me not. Height has its advantages in a competitive society. Its all calculations and estimations and being short has its cons. survival of the fittest. pure and simple.

and 3 emoji's really expressive. gud
