I am going to end up doing both segments too, femurs and tibias with Giotikas/Birkholtz (havnt decided) so I've been researching the timelines alot lately. However I will not do cross lengthening or quadrilateral I will do it sequentially (one after another).
Yea reread your post that doesn't sound like cross lengthening it sounds like quadrilateral, however it looks like you are waiting until the tibias is done lengthening and is consolidating before you insert the femur nail and start lengthening your femurs. So you'll never be "lengthening" all 4 segments at the same time. However if you notice the tibia frames don't get removed until the very end so you'll be using the frames throughout the femur lengthening/consolidation. It also seems this would be pure external and not LON/LATN if you're waiting 25 weeks to get the tibia frames off. Sorry if my writing is confusing the timelines confused me a bit.
Anyways to answer your question, yes that seems like a reasonable timeline. It's about 6 months and that seems accurate if you do it the way he described. For me, I am going to do femurs first for 5cm (2-3 months with stryde) then tibias (5-6 months). My plan would take about 8 months for the same amount. It's 2 months more than yours which makes sense because your are saving the 2 months of femur lengthening by doing it during the tibia consolidation.
I want to do it my way to make it easier on my body/physical therapy but also because I really do not want to have the external frames on my tibias when I go in to get my precice nail inserted. The postop experience will be bad enough without the additional weight/pain of the frames, but maybe they would be painless because you wouldn't be lengthening so idk. They also say that the precice nail isn't that bad after the intial post op experience so idk this is still something I'm debating myself.
At the end of the day you need to what works for you. I am actually pretty tempted to do it the way Dr. Giotikas described because getting it all done in 6 months is extremely tempting. Idk though there is still a lot to consider.
Long post I know but i hope it helped
Hey there, how tall are you right now and how much do you plan to lengthen?
Probably the post op and recovery period of femurs won't be as hard because I'll be done with tibias (except for the frames). Probably It'll be a bit uncomfortable, but I guess it wont affect my recovery, mobility or something like that.
So do you think taking the two extra months is a good option? I mean I want to finish with all of this as soon as I can and two months may seem like a short period of time, but trust me, it isn't. Anyway, it all depends on what you feel more okay about.
Dr Giotikas is my best option rn because I don't trust Pilli or the other doctors and I don't have the money for Paley, so...
