External on Tibia
« on: June 07, 2018, 05:40:05 PM »

Hello everyone !

I plan to do my surgery for the shins on November. I would like to do external but I have some questions! I understand that there is different methods of external surgery like LON LATN and TSF.

I think I understand how they work but I don’t understand which one is better than the others?

Some people say that you have to wait 3 month after the surgery to remove the frames and others says it’s after 6-9 month ! What do you think about this?

Thanks you!

LON and LATN are methods to reduce time wearing the frames on your legs. I believe they are more risky than simply pure external because they'll involve additional surgeries and inserting/removing nails.

TSF is an external fixator, the Taylor Spatial Frame. At least, that's the most common usage of the acronym I've seen used here.

Yes I do want to add, before doing this surgery, ask yourself if you have optimized your life to the fullest extent possible (job/career, personality, etc).

Thank you for your answer ! I see .. it explains why with LON and LATN we remove the frame after only 3 months ..
The maximum gain on external tibia that is recommended is 5-6 cm?

I have seen many people who have exceeded this limit up to 8 even 10 and have had no problem I have trouble understanding why ..

Well you're 173cm. You can generally do longer than the average LLer as your tibia length is most likely longer than the average patient who's recommended
