Hey all!

The time is here, I'll be leaving on Monday for South Africa for Dr. Birkholtz.

I'll be there for 4-6 months. He is extremely conservative about lengthening speed (.66-.75mm per day) and makes you stay until you are at least totally solid on crutches.

Are there any things you recommend I bring before I head? He's got practically all the basics covered, just looking for specifics.

Thank you!

(Goal: 7-8cm femurs. Fitbone. Starting at 170cm.)

IMO, If you aren't already, you should be a 'expert' on crutches BEFORE you have the surgery. Use this time to go 100% on crutches for a least a day, it will help you figure out if/where you might have deficiencies that can be addressed before you are completely dependent on using your crutches.

May I know the reason why  you choose fitbone instead of Precise nail?
Cause the fitbone and Precise naile is same price but Precise seems more reliable and prevalent.

precise nail shortage happening right now. Dr Birkholtz was able to grab a medium sized precise for me but not a large one (even though I would have fit the larger one), so I'm opting for fitbone instead because fitbone has far more weight capacity. Still not full weightbearing, but I'll have less anxiety about transitions.

1 Speak of a medium sized precise for me but not a large one, which diameter of P nail does  Dr Birkholtz  provide?
2 Will you share the  difference in weight capacity for fitbone and P nail by Dr Birkholtz shared or pro&cons between  fitbone and P nail?
Thus we will have more knowledge about them.
