I like the hotel, it feels like my new home now, very comfy and the staff here are very nice and taking good care of me, I have assistant from the hotel who helps with cleaning and stuff and some days they give me the breakfast to my room so they are very nice to me and that’s great
Yeah you right about slowing down, it’s probably the best and less painful but I’m feeling this pain in my ankle wires even tho I’ve done .75 and I guess I won’t feel any difference when doing 1 mm, I just want to stand in my time frame because I don’t want to stay in India so long, and if I’ll do .75 and .5 all the process would take a lot longer, but I may consider that if the pain will be more severe

Hi, can you walk normally now? I had an external surgery on December 1st. Now it has been lengthed by 18mm, 0.75mm a day, without any pain, and can walk flexibly with a walker, but don't know when I can walk normally without a walker.

No I can’t walk at all probably during all lengthening, and will probably walk normally in 6-7 months if everything goes well

New update on pain - so I started getting some nerve pain in my ankle, where the wires comes out and it’s just terrible because every time I move my leg too much, I’m getting this sharp cutting like sensation that makes me just want to scream, also when I’m cleaning those pins it’s just a nightmare and I have to do that for 60+ more days..
And got some pain in the inner side of the knee, there’s a small wire there that cuts my flesh and muscle and just limiting my range of motion(because of the pain), so tomorrow I’m gonna try do physio at the hospital, just to see if I’m ok and can keep on with the exercises until they arrange someone to come and do the physio with me
Pain throughout the day is 3/10, sometimes spikes to 6-7/10 but just for small amount of time, and nighttime is probably the worse, trying to find a comfy position is just not the same as it was a week ago, feeling pain and muscles stretching and it’s gonna be a difficult ride til 5 cm+
Right now lengthening at a pace of .75 - left leg is 1.5 cm and right 1.125 cm

If you don't mind, may I know what would be the best way to contact Dr Parihar's team for initial consultation? I am thinking femur LON for maximum 8cm and seriously considering Dr Parihar for the procedure.
And another thing is, is hotel/in person PT sessions worth it? How much do they charge usually?

Thank you I’m feeling better now as I’m taking antibiotics and ultracet and Pregablin at night for the pain.
Also contacting him through email is the way, and he’s not doing femur external for cosmetic because that’s probably the worst thing to do for cosmetic

Kilokahn, had something to ask you as well, you said once that your running stamina has decreased from what it was pre surgery, what did you mean my that? Having some discomfort while trying to run, considering it has been 10 years already, what kind of discomforts do you feel and did some of them go away with time? I won’t walk until the end I guess, but it depends on my x rays which I go tomorrow to do, if my bone is ok they let me maybe stand/walk a little but not more than that.
Pain wise I’m ok now, feeling the muscles stretch and it’s not comfortable, at night is the worst because u wake up lots of times because of discomfort.
Btw I had pinsite infection, on my ankle and that was the most terrible pain I felt in my life, every movement hurts like hell, no sleeping at all! Every time I tried to go to sleep, my muscles flinched just before falling asleep and the movement made me just scream in pain and wake up, just like horror movie so I didn’t have sleep for almost two nights, but I took my antiobiotics and ultracet pain killer and I was ok the night after, right now throughout the day I’m not taking any pain killers, at night I take Pregablin as the doctor told me but in few days It will be done.
Right now I’m supposed to be 2cm on left leg and 1.625 cm on my right, tomorrow I will know better after the x rays, I hope the measurements will be the same because I really want to get those frames off my legs 😂 and go back home of course

I'm very sorry to hear that you got pinsite infections, but how did you get them in the first place? I thought pinsite clearing clears away the chances by a lot. And yeah I certainly feel you when you say you want to get rid of those frames and go back home, it'd be very great if you'd attach some pictures of your x ray, and your progress is pretty solid, just around 3 cm in one leg and 3.375 cm in the other is left, I'm sure you'd cross this hurdle too, and I hope you experience less pain for that, btw, you said "I might be able to stand" So since 4th of december, you haven't stood up a single time, post op? And those medicines and that you took to ease your pain, were they given to you by the team or was it an out of pocket cost? Assuming you to finish lengthening on your 80-90th days in both legs, you'd try walking then, just as you said, please update when you start walking with assistive devices. My best wishes

So I had my follow up last week, and the team measured my device distraction and it was 1.88 cm on my left and 1.45 on my right, but the actual length that was measured in the x rays was 1.5 cm on left and 1 cm on my right so it’s a less actually.
Right now i supposed to be 2.15 cm left and 1.65 cm right, I just can’t wait to get to 3 cm, because when Il get there, the end would be closer than the beginning and it’s a big milestone for me.
I was able to stand, most of the weight on my upper body as they told me to not weight bear on my legs because of compression, so I was practically floating almost 😅 with no weight on my legs/very small weight bearing.
Almost everyone get pinsite infection from my understanding, it’s not uncommon you just buy medicines from your money with prescriptions they give you and it’s usually passes in a few days, the pain from this pinsite was terrible and I slept like 3 hours total in 2 days due to the pain but it settled down and I just forgot about it.
Right now I feel pain in my bones, I feel the discomfort from the fixator and just feel overall stiff, every movement is just hard and it’s pretty bad to be like this for another 50 days, also the pinsite cleaning everyday definitely makes it a lot harder because the pins gets so painful when u scrub them everyday, but that’s orders from dr parihar and I’m not playing with that.
Next week I will have another follow up and I hope the x rays will say that I’m at least 2.8 cm on left and 2.3 on right

Hi how are you doing as of now? How's your physio going on? Did the team ask you to take a few assisted steps? How do they counter not losing of muscular ability required for walking over such a long period? How's your pinsites now? Hope they are better than before and what's your length in both of your legs, as of now?

The protocol of not losing muscle is the same with everyone-pt, even tho I was permitted do stand and take 2 steps, 3 times a day.
My pin sites are better now, slowed down to .75 on both legs, my left is currently 3.15 cm and right is 2.7 cm, I’m planning on lengthening for 4 more weeks and then stop and schedule removal surgery, I hope I will be able to hit at least 5 but 5cm is also ok for me, I don’t want to be greedy and also staying alone, having pain with no one to help me around can be too difficult and frustrating so the fastest I’m going to get out of here is better for my mental(also physically because my nutrition is bad here, always ordering rice and chicken and burgers) the better.

Great going man, more power to you to tide over this period, I remember you once mentioned that the hotel is providing you someone to take care of you at times, is that an extra expenditure or is it included within the package? Do you actually like require help from them at times or you can even do things alone, with assistive devices, but you opted to be safer, so you asked for a helper, which one is it? Also, please keep updating at times, it means a lot and please continue this till the day when you can gain around maximum of your pre op abilities.

I personally asked from one of the house keeping to help me with cleaning my room and my bed commode but now I don’t need much help at all.
The price for the surgery is between 14-15k usd, everything else is calculated by your own as you can cheap out or even get better hotel than I was in. Food also is how much you eat, if u like groceries or delivery, better ask ChatGPT for that
Currently I’m at 3.5 at left and 3 on right, about 3.5 weeks more of lengthening and than I will schedule removal surgery.

You got to use a bed commode? Can one not use a regular commode, during the lengthening phase with the help of assistive devices? I mean, you literally have to go to the commode with the device and just sit there and again return with the devices, to your bed, is it not possible in your case Or did the team advised you not to do so? so if that's the case, then haven't you taken a bath over this period? I've got no idea about these aspects as no one so far has talked about this who has had a first hand experience. Enlighten us.

I meant commode chair not the bed one, but now I just scoop myself over the floor to bathroom and do my stuff there+shower.
Started walking and it feels good, I’m at left 36.75mm and 32.25mm right.
Still no noticeable ballerina, I don’t feel like my calves getting stretched or the skin as it was at 2cm, I guess increasing exercises and stretching is like a blessing, doing 3-4 times a day calves and hamstrings stretching for 2 min every time and that’s good amount, also doing pt twice a day, and pt visits me Monday and Thursday and giving me opinion on my work(last session he said I’m doing great and I only have like 1.5 cm more)
Next appointment is on Wednesday, hope that I will be above 4 cm left leg and above 3.5 on my right.
Pain wise, right now I’m pain free even at night!! Haven’t took painkillers for like 2-3 days.
Before that, the pain mainly started at night but now it’s just gone.
Standing with 3.5 cm gain is a crazy pov, just looking at the items in my room and everything look lower and smaller, I can’t wait to see how life would look when I’ll be 1.5 cm taller, it would probably feel very different in a good way, and I hope my bone growth would be good enough so I would be able to walk in 2-3 months

And thank you for clearing the misunderstanding, I'm very pleased to hear that you can walk now a bit, what assistive devices do you use for the time being, a zimmer frame (Walker) or elbow crutches? I thought you were going to extend upto 6 cm, why did you suddenly thought of stopping at 5 cm? And are the pt sessions coming under additional costs or do they provide it for free? I heard the pt sessions at the hospital or clinic, during the visits end up becoming free, is that true?

Never said I’m going to 6, my first thought was 5.5 but I think that 5 cm would be better for me and for my overall proportions as I still want to be functional after this surgery, also this is not an easy road at all and the delay that I had with my lengthening made me stay a few more days than I expected so that also one of the reasons(the body takes Time to adjust to lengthening so a few mm get lost due to muscle resistance etc).
I’m walking with a walker no crutches and you must pay pt even if you go there, I guess it’s cheaper but paying a 200-300 rupees more to get it in your is a lot more convenient than going in a taxi to the hospital

I see, and the loss of a few milimetres have sure hurt the process, other than the pt sessions, do you follow the exercise regimen that they gave you, regularly? So, pt post surgery is an additional cost, or is it included within the 12.5 lakhs you paid? One more thing, just right after the surgery and when the anaesthetics had worn off, did you feel extreme pain due to insertion of the Nail, the LON intramedullary nail I'm talking about, or you took pain killers, I heard in an interview that he often asks patients to take medicines like paracetamol for pain management. Regardless, 12.5 lakhs for a surgery in a place like Mumbai, which doesn't even include physiotherapy, let alone, food, accommodation is a lot of strain on the budget, but he's safe, that's what matters the most, it's better if they start providing accommodation facilities for their patients, within the budget, they've promised but it was a fake one I believe, after all no one wants to be in a position where they can't walk, but need to run to different places for accommodation facilities

I hope you have all of your functional abilities, you not updating for sometime is scary, hey, have you faced any issue with the intramedullary nail bending? I certainly hope nothing like that happens. Has there been any issue during the lengthening phase other than that extreme pain at 2 cm, with the apparatus, say popping of the nails or bending of the nails? What was the cause of that extreme pain at 2 cm, have they confirmed? Is that really true that he didn't have a lot of permanent risky crippling complications with any of his patients? has appearance of callus started already? What's your status on functioning? Please reply, as it is getting scary

You asking the same questions multiple times, just read what I’ve been saying and you’ll find everything you need. The nail has no reason to bend as I’m doing lon which is weight bearing as I said.
Right now I’m above 4 in both legs(the x rays says that I’m supposed to be about 4.5 in both legs but they being cautious and taking the measurements a few mm less) and about to finish lengthening in about a week and a half. 5 cm seems perfect as my ankle and knee function are still well and I want to preserve that and get better in my recovery phase so I could walk and get most of my athletic ability back, I have to say that going above 5-6 in tibias is not very smart especially for the shorter folks here, too many risks and not enough reward for those few mm above 5 in my opinion. Hope that I will be able to get the removal surgery in the beginning of march and fly back to my home a few days after. I hope I will have enough power and interest to keep posting here as this forum is pretty much dead.
