Good luck and congrats on taking the step. Some days are going to be harder than others, but follow Dr Parihar's instructions absolutely and you'll eventually come out of this taller and ready to move on in life.

Hey Kilo, if I want to do 4.5cm tibia LON with Dr.Parihar, can I finish the whole process in 70 days and then leave or do I have to stay in India for 90 days? How smooth will the process be if I don't exceed 4.5cm tibia?

You can leave as soon as the lengthening is finished and Dr Parihar removes the external fixator from you. Walking is going to take longer, but you're not required to stay until that point. Smaller lengthenings are generally smoother, but it's not a guarantee. Some people have had problems after only 1 cm of distraction, particularly if they don't listen to instructions. But it's also genetic. Everyone is going to respond to lengthening differently.

So I got the surgery on my left leg yesterday, I will start from the time I got admitted to the hospital until now..
I got admitted to my room and was pretty nervous about the surgery but I realised I’m going to do this no matter what! After that tried to sleep and one of the staff told me I need to be ready at 8:00 am and do a shower with antiseptic. In the morning I got the fluid, took shower with it before the surgery and after that I got to the operation room where I got my anesthesia first and after that I just fell asleep and woke up a few times ..
They rolled me over to the icu for observation and I didn’t felt any pain because of the anesthesia..
And after a few hours the pain finally came and it was hard enough to not let me fall asleep, feels like a huge pressure combined with big ache on my upper tibias, also every time I tried to move I’ve felt like my knee is being pulled out.. but I asked for pain killers and they helped me to fall asleep, that was the first night, then when I woke up in the morning I felt ok small pain like 3/10 and they took me to my room and did some exercises with the physio, after that I just fell asleep for like 7-8 hours (took my first oral painkillers in before)..
I’m the evening dr parihar came to see me and he was kind of surprised when he heard that I had pain despite the epidural.. but I told him I’m good now
I will keep updating after the surgery on my other leg 🦵

Nice to hear youre doing the same as im looking to do! Tibia 6cm.

I've heard Parihar needs to make sure you have contact with family and things like that. How did you solve this requirement?

Also, so you think you can do physio at home? Im thinking it might cause problems if something happens, so i plan to stay for like 6-8months or until i can walk without problem.

So for the first question, if u a foreigner dr parihar doesn’t restrict u, only Indian patients are required to have their family.
Second question- u can have physio at your home/hotel
And about the cost- about 15k usd for surgery and other stuff u do like ct x rays and other things..
Right now I feel ok, got my catheter and dressings off today but something very hard happened to me in the morning, while I was doing my physio I tried to take a few steps and I got my spinal headache very bad and felt like I’m actually passing out, losing control over my senses and they just let me lay on the bed and after a few moments I just laughed at it, felt like drugs!!😂
But pain wise I’m fine, I think I’m one of the lucky ones who have pain only after surgery but days after are like 0/10, just feeling stiff but not actual pain if I don’t move..
But one thing that did hurt me was the pinsite cleaning with the gauzes, when the dr taught me how to clean my self the pain went from like 1/10 to something like 7/8-10, very bad I was breathing heavily while cleaning the pinsites, but u just need to hold the pain for 11 pinsites once a day and u are good

Hi there, it's very nice to hear you're getting your surgery done, and i hope all of it goes well. I'm considering to get the surgery done by doctor parihar as well, and you're doing it rn, I hope you achieve all those centimeters and regain your pre surgery athleticism, I have a few questions for you, since you're the most recent person

1. I'm from India, but a different region and it's very difficult to get family or relatives to stay there during the lengthening period, so if it's possible, can you tell from your experience or just ask the team whether they'd allow indian origin patients from different region to stay without family during the lengthening period?

2. How much is the hotel maharana inn charging you for a day? If it's 50 usd, then they're charging their standard rate and they're not giving any discount for a longer stay.

3. Have you started lengthening? How much are they saying you should lengthen each day 0.75 mm or 1 mm?

4. How long do you intend to stay there? 90-100 days as envisaged? Or till you achieve assisted walking abilities?

5. Since you're a foreigner and without family there, is the team helping you out to get accustomed to things? Will they provide you with help when you're discharged for the hospital and move to your accommodation facilities?

You can opt for physiotherapy in your hotel but, I believe it's gonna be an extra payment, they do give you a physiotherapy regimen which you need to follow every day and probably in every 1-2 weeks they have check ups and physiotherapy sessions in their clinics, which ends up becoming free, atleast it did for kilokahn

1. I think u should ask the dr if he allows that because every case has its own unique conditions
2. They charging me 2800 rs per night
3.haven’t started lengthening yet, I have my right leg surgery in 3 days and after that I will probably start with the left leg lengthening 0.75 mm for some time and maybe after that I will up to 1 mm, depending on my condition
I want to stay in India until march 4-5, so I plan on stopping lengthening anywhere from 20-23 February so I will have enough time before frame removal, and then I will go back to my home to consolidate

Thanks for letting me know some of these details. Have you started a diary? And i just got to know that they don't operate on both the legs the same day. It's gonna turn out so much better, your new life is about to unfold. Are you at the hospital now or for the given time you're at the hotel?. Does the 2800 Rs you mentioned also include your meals?

What do u mean by having a diary? This is my diary I have only here in the ll forum
And currently at the hospital gonna have my second surgery in 3 days, that’s gonna be hard, today I got to do my first pin site care and it’s a lot of time and pain because my legs are so stiff and there’s some pins it’s very hard to reach and that’s tough
The hotel have breakfast only and a restaurant in the first floor- u need to pay for the restaurant meals if u want, breakfast included

So I’ve done my second surgery on the right leg..
Night before the surgery two of parihar’s fellows came and greeted me, and one of them made me a bit anxious because she said it can be stressful, painful and difficult and I knew that but when someone says it again it can make u a bit more anxious..
So couldn’t go to sleep, but after a few hours I chilled a bit and had 4 hour sleep..
woke up by “mama” (caretaker of hospital) to antiseptic bath and he washed me totally nked but I got used to it and it’s nothing to shame about, and after two hours they took me to the surgery room but this time it was a bit different, different nurses and fellows and different anestheatic dr, which tried to put it in my lower back and it gutted very much because she did it like 6 times, and in the first surgery it wasn’t like that.
So I got numb but had a vomit sensation and headache with heavy breathing, very anxious and they tried to calm me down and after a few minutes I was good, got to sleep and surgery began..
Hated that feeling of being pulled and hammered but it’s not painful so it’s fine.
Got released to the icu where I didn’t had pain actually until now because of anesthesia, but I think it will wear off soon and I will have a bit of pain but it’s ok because I’m the first leg, my pain and swelling got away the next morning so it means even if it will wear off soon, it would still be a little less painful than the first one..
I will try to update as much as I can and will try to upload the photons when Il be back at the hotel with Wi-Fi .

Man this forum is dying.. I thought this diary would get much more interest but I guess not..
I will update every now and then on my condition, not more than that
So yesterday discharged from the hospital, was pretty smooth got on a xl Uber, nice driver who helped me, hotel staff really nice helped me and carried me inside my room, gave them 500 rs tip because that’s how India works..
Feeling great actually, no pain in the legs, sometimes little tingling and shockwaves for a second but it’s ok, had a great night yesterday slept for 12 hours with no problems, currently at 0.5 cm at my left leg and 1 mm at my right leg

It's because the site went down for a long time. I think many of our regulars thought the forum died for good.

BTW, did you meet the other LON patient while there?

Yeah I met a patient that done the surgery before me, great guy and we became lengthening buddies for a short while but he’s back to his country right now, finished and looks well.
I heard also that an Indian patient who’ve done precice femur has done the surgery on his tibias a few days ago, tibia lon, but I’m not sure because I didn’t saw him and sometimes the language barrier can be problematic because we can’t understand each other

Hey man, did you see my PM? I responded to your message - great to see that you are going ahead with the surgery. While this forum may be less popular than it was in the past, your diary is still super valuable. Just look at Ted68's diary, it got thousands of views. Best of luck with the process! Many of us are interested in hearing about your experience.

OK, i see theres some people who still on the forum si i will share more and more often..
so i see theres something that is not talked about this surgery, and in my opinion is far harder than the pain of the surgery it self, and its the side effect of spinal anestesia as known as spinal headache, which i suffered from the days after my second leg surgery, and it included nausea, constipation, headaches, weakness, loss of apetite, blurring, and other physical pain which made me feel like im not human anymore.. and the worse one was feeling something between my chest and back expending and made me feel like im chocking.. that was one of the hardest experiences in my whole life and ive been through some  .. i cried but im stronger than all this, actually as of now im not taking any pain killers because my legs are not in pain, i guess sometimes i feel 2/10, but thats max
so im in the hotel, nice staff helps me, still clicking .75 per day, 2 times a day physio alone, the pinsite is the hardest part of the day for me lol, the hands wash and being sterile and scrubbing the open wounds can make u go crazy, takes me almost hour for both legs, but im getting better at it..
havent had normal shower since 4th december, but il probably will try to shower carefully today/tomorrow, because u cant shower before u remove the dressings who cover your stitches..
right now i think im at 6.75 mm at left leg and 3 mm at the right leg, dont feel much, just tingling sometime and small shockwaves but its ok not painfull for me.
if someone have a question please ask, i will be happy to answer, and one advice from me is just search as much as u can and try to ask the right questions, not dumb ones.

Oh the pin site care takes me back. I'd always dread doing it because sometimes it would take me about an hour each leg to take off all the old bandages and then wrap the new ones. Fortunately you don't have to do it for a whole year like I did.

Glad that the hotel staff is helpful still. I always thought it made more sense to stay at a hotel than a guesthouse because the hotel takes care of everything you need.

What's your opinion on the level of care by Dr Parihar's team so far?

Parihar himself and his close team seem very nice, there’s one lady doctor who was very helpful with me(she was the one doing the right leg with parihar), but other than that I really didn’t saw the team, dr parihar showed up only twice during my stay at the hospital, one of them was inside the OT, and in general the hospital itself looked very bad, outdated and pretty scary for me as I’m coming from western country, and the care takers were bad and reckless and didn’t care about me(not all, just some) but the nurses were fine and took care of me very good, maybe because I’m young they thought I’m just like their little child or something, but overall those 2 weeks were bad, unhygienic and sometimes felt like no one cares about me, but that’s why they tell patient to bring someone with them

Nice man, I will probably see you there!
And if u stay at maharana inn it can be nice as I bought ps5 and fifa so maybe we can play together if I won’t finish until your discharge..
I want to stop lengthening end of February so I can get the frames off early march and fly back to my home, in that time frame if everything goes smoothly as it’s going now, I will be at 5.5 cm which is my goal( that also depends if my proportion would ok and not freaky)
Now I’m at 11.75 mm on left leg and 8 mm on the right, and I’m lengthening at a 1mm pace per day for now, it may change if I will feel pain but I’m ok and I don’t think I will have extraordinary pain or difficulty, sometimes I just take one pain killer at night just to sleep

Good going man! Keep updating your LL journey, would like to hear how your life changes after this period. Are you having physiotherapy sessions or the regimen they gave you, everyday? How's your range of motion? Can you use the bathroom and take a bath, all by yourself? Would love to know these stuff... Sorry to sound so demanding, your fullest life is just a 2 years away. Oh btw, do they charge extra for the removal of the nail, from your tibia? How long after the surgery do they remove it?

Doing physio by myself right now but I’m planning on taking at least 2-3 weekly sessions with a physiotherapist, my range of motion is good I think, I’m able to extend my knee fully, my ankle is also ok I just have pain in the front pin site on my ankle which is causing me pain so that’s something I need to deal with.
About nail removal it’s a long way until that.. I don’t think that’s included.
Yeah I can go inside the shower, just dragging myself inside and sitting on a small chair and washing myself, it’s a bit hard to put shorts on because the of the frames but I can do it.
Right now I’ve slowed my lengthening to .75 instead of 1 mm because I got so much pain during the night that it was hard for me to sleep even tho I took paracetamol, so I will try to alternate between.75 to 1 mm per day

Thanks for answering! And sorry to hear about your discomfort while increasing at 1mm per day, it seems like a nice plan of alternating, but might pose some threat as you'd be pushing yourself to the extreme in alternate days, I'd ask you to reconsider this and talk to the team, if they say it's fine then it's well and good. Good going man! Can't wait to see the newer you. My best wishes.

I did 1mm per day, but only rarely. For the most part it was .75 mm or .50mm. I definitely had less pain when distracting at a slower rate.

The ankle wires are the absolute worst. I hated them until I got the frames removed. Try to take it one day at a time. Aldo, the more you occupy your mind with something, the less you'll tend to notice the pain. Playing a difficult video game always helped my pain tolerance in that regard.

How are you finding the Hotel Maharana staff? They were great when I was there, so wondering if it's still a comfortable space for accommodation.
