Can you reuse the same nails?

Figured out it might be cheaper. Can you theoretically reuse precise or lon nails for second surgery? Why or why not?

No surgeon would go for that. It would be considered malpractice. I’m sure theoretically there could be a way, but it’s too risky for a surgeon to willingly go for it.

Can anyone answer why? I don't see why logically you won't be able to reuse them.

The main problem is intra-medular infection. And that is a BIG one !

Precice and LATN are NEVER re-use, because of many reasons.
Betzbone and Gnail are hard to clean, because the clicking mechanism.
LON is possible to be re-used, because the internal rod is simple, much easier to clean after and the external rail has no reason to not be re-used. But is still risky.
New generation of Illizarov frame is re-usable, but the internal rod is basically same as LON.

Actually only old style Illizarov was 100% re-usable... because no internal rod.
