Hi, I'm planning on doing the surgery (femur 6 - 6.5 cm) later this year. I decided not to tell anyone that I'm doing this surgery (at least until I'm comfortable with it). So I'm thinking about telling my friends and co-workers that I'm doing a Meniscus repair surgery on both of my knees. To explain that
1) why it would be hard for me to walk after the surgery. And the rough timeline it takes to walk normally is around 3-6 month.
2) why I might have scars on my leg.
3) If anyone ask why I'm taller. I maybe could say that I'm doing PT and my bowed leg are fixed? Also I'm waring 1-1.5 inches lift right now. And after the surgery I would wear no lift to reduce the height difference.

Hope to get some advice on this. Is this a good excuse? Is there any better ones?

It's not possible to make an excuse for that kind of gain that someone with brain cells that thinks for longer than 10 seconds would believe. Also everyone with Instagram and internet access knows about the procedure now. To really hide it, wearing lifts for a while before the surgery is probably the best thing. Otherwise your best case is people not noticing, or noticing and you just play it off or gaslight them (or admit it if that's what you want). Some people say crap like bowleg correction or discrepancy correction; again, any amount of thought makes it clear that the difference would have been clearly visible before to make that much of a height gain afterwards.

what are you lengthening i would expect a timeline of 6-10 months. even with everyday stretching . it takes alot to get back to normal and not tell ur family memebers. things change weekly n monthly on the timeline. u want this or that. its gonna take a toll on ur body.

What surgical method are you using (i.e. Precice, G-Nail, externals, etc)

And where are you planning to get the surgery?

These details matter quite a bit with regard to your cover story.

Since I might work an IT job I might tell my parents that I have a job offer elsewhere in a different country and it may be believable as no one in my family does any core IT work.

You could tell people that you have an internship with a company elsewhere and you'll be gone for a few months. After a few months just say you didn't get the position however they did sponsor you into another workplace near your home

I'm considering doing the surgery with doctor Paley. So possible Precice 2.2 or Precice MAX (hopefully) later this year. I hope to lengthen on femur for 6 - 6.5 cm. Also I'm in IT industry, so a few months of working remotely would be possible. I know it would be impossible to completely hide the fact that I did the surgery. But I hope to play it down so that I won't get too much attention on it.

i heard precice max is coming in march. not sure if there testing or starting. just remember p2.2 its not weight bearing and u need like 3 or 4 months until u can be on crutches. ppl do it early but it can be risky. i heard dr paley makes u find pt so thats something on you to find. and being alone with the wheelchair and finding an air bnb mostly on you. taking uber to pt with a wheel chair . if u are prepared for that.

You heard wrong. Dr. Paley has his own PT team. You don't need to find a PT. Additionally, Paley Institute has a listed of recommended hotels. Some of which, like where I stayed, have a free shuttle, with motorized wheelchair lift, that takes patients free of charge to PT and then after back to the hotel.

If anyone asks very specific question like

"Wow you grew, did you get limb lengthening surgery done?"

just say yes please. Don't be awkward. Also provide a valid reason.

Unless he is a total douchebag, he would understand.
