At 175cm in the morning is it worth it?
« on: December 23, 2023, 10:03:59 PM »

Hi I’m currently 175cm in the morning, and around 174 to 173 at very night, is it worth it to lengthen tibia to around 5.5 to 6 just to get near 6 foot o 5’11?

This might sound like a cop out/cliche answer, but only you can determine that. Do you feel that being that height negatively impacts your daily, social or dating life? Does the dysmorphia you get from wishing you were taller significantly affect your your mental health? Have you tried improving all other aspects of your SMV like appearance, social life, personality etc.?

For me completely NOT! Insoles 3-5 cm and that's it!
But there are crazy people who do LL even with 180cm of height plus
So it's up to you :)

I can probably give you some insight, as I was your height and did the surgery a year ago. I did 7.5 cm on femurs (LON), Im now about 182 - 183cm. I dont know where you live and what the average height is but I come from a tall country so I just kinda became average. The surgery did cure my height dysmorphia / neurosis, I no longer notice peoples height, people are either tall or short. I also feel no different wearing boots or sneakers. Im definitely more confident. But my life hasnt drastically changed or anything. Im walking normally, but running feels weird and my balance is still a bit off. I'd say im about 85% there. I geuss it depends on what you're after in terms of if its worth it or not. I would do it all over again, I think. It was absolutely difficult and a dark period in my life but for me it was worth it.

at that point its cosmetic. do u want to go 6 months exercising and getting back up to strength . maybe having a mild case of hyper lordosis and fixing ur gait. about 5 months without a job or if ur lucky work at home. friends and parents asking u where u been. when u going home. haha its ok. alot of ppl think of it for more than 3 yrs because there short. if u have tall friends n relative n live in a tall country then yeh maybe go for it.

I was at a similar height as you. I'm happy I did it. It's pretty cool being tall now lol.

That being said, I was in a great financial place in my life to do it. I don't think I would have done it if it cost me my entire life savings or something.

Height is normally distributed, with a mean between 170-180cm depending on where you live. Due to the nature of a normal distribution most people will be one or two standard deviation within the mean. This means someone at 160cm could lengthen 10cm and hardly overtake anyone, whilst someone at 175cm could lengthen merely 5cm and overtake a quarter to a third of all men, and virtually all women.

Since you are close to, or right at, the mean, 5.5 to 6cm would therefore imply you will yield a relatively large improvement at a relatively low risk.

Since you are close to, or right at, the mean, 5.5 to 6cm would therefore imply you will yield a relatively large improvement at a relatively low risk.

Just to add onto this:

If we assume a normal distribution of male heights with a mean of 180 cm and a standard deviation of 7 cm then with an original height of 175 cm you are taller than 23.75% of the male population. If you lengthened to 180 cm you would now be taller than 50% of the male population. If you lengthened to 182 cm you would now be taller than 61.25% of the male population.

So doing 7 cm at this height you’d go from being taller than 23.75% of males to 61.25% which is a giant jump relatively speaking.

As others said, just wear elevator shoes you'll be fine.

Do your research. Your results will likely be negligible. If you’re really looking for a psychological boost then maybe.
