Risk of high dose Vitamin D supplementation
« on: October 12, 2023, 06:24:53 PM »

I'm now six months post-surgery(six months after remove tibia LON fixer). Do I need to continue taking nutritional supplements ,until my bones are fully healed?
Currently, I'm supplementing with 800mg of calcium and 20,000 IU of vitamin D daily. (The recommended dosage of vitamin D I found on forums is 5,000 to 10,000 IU, but someone suggested I take 20,000 IU, saying the risks are minimal. They mentioned that many people who don't need bone growth also take this amount.) Is there a risk of hypercalcemia with this regimen?I've done some research, and it says that a vitamin D supplement of more than 4000 IU can pose a risk of causing hypercalcemia I've noticed that I'm often woken up early in the morning by the urge to urinate, which I don't recall happening as frequently before.

No idea mate, but many westerners have vit D deficiency. If you are scared about it, limit your intake to 10k, and add in vitamin K2. Supposedly keeps your arteries unclogged.

I think Paley said in an interview with cyborg4life that it's almost impossible to get to much vitamin D.

Who told you to take that huge amount of vitamin d? Of course you are gomma have trouble with that, it is 4 times more than the upper safe limit!
I take 4.000 per day only because I have a big deficiency (12 while the normal range is more than 20) and when I reach normal levels I will continue with 2.000 per day.
I wouldn't take 20.000 for no reason at all, it is clearly risky.

I would certainly take vitamin K2 as well if I was doing high doses vitamin D as the K2 helps the body position the calcium correctly in the body.

Man, why you ask here ?
You should ask your surgeon who tested and supervised your growth evolution...
