Is Turkey a good choice for limb lengthening surgery?
« on: October 04, 2023, 07:42:44 AM »

I am planning to do limb lengthening in either Turkey, Germany or South Korea.
It looks like on average, limb lengthening is cheaper in Turkey than the other two.
Is Turkey a good choice for limb lengthening surgery?
Also, how is AFA limb lengthening clinic in Turkey?
Does the AFA provide quadrilateral limb lengthening package?

The first two ideas are better only take turkey as the last choice also if you do go make sure to stay away from wannabetaller. AFA is probably better turkey company around.

It depends on where you get it done in Turkey.

Livelifetaller is a horrible choice that abandon patients with complications, overlengthen and lengthen at an absurd rate.

Wannabetaller also has many patients who has gotten severe complications and they offer a crappy hotel (look at patients experiences tab on this forum)

Uyksel Yurtaas has also crippled multiple patients with Tibias, since he doesn't know how to do them probably, but still calls himself the second best surgeon in the world lol.

Afa is the best option in Turkey from patients experiences and reviews on this forum with 0 bad reviews and a couple of very positive verified ones. If you look up Mustafa Uysal their surgeon online he only has positivé verified reviews on different turkish doctor review sites and more 20 years of experience with deformity cases. I'm going to get my surgery done by them in 2 weeks since they offer a very convenient service with everything in one building (psysiotherapy, X-rays) They even offer hydrotherapy and drive you everywhere you need to go.

If you have a higher budget go with Dr Birkholtz in South Africa, because his probably the best for the price, however he is about 30% more expensive than them, and for me the long distance is a big turn off. Don't wanna travel handicapped with 3 connecting flights with about 20 hours of travel time, but maybe you live closer to south Africa.

Above statement right if you must go turkey AFA seems like the place to go. I have seen the wannabetallers hotel and it's disgusting no wonder there is so much infection cases. Also worst location and services don't even waste your time on them.

No. Unequivocally no. This is asked all the time and the answer is the same. You get what you pay for, remember that.

overandover Me too. And when I come out fine on the other side, you be embarrassed of your childish behaviour on here. 2 people on here already made diaries that are verified with no complications, but I guess that's a hard pill to swallow since that doesn't make all Turkish surgeons bad... Even Cyborg4life recommends a Turkish surgeon Metin K, which is a part of his Thec4llective. How can dr Mustafa Uysal and Metik K be bad surgeons if they only have positive verified reviews and Cyborg4life recommends one of them?

You coming out fine doesn't prove anything. As much as people hate to admit this, many, if not most, people have come out of LLT and WannaBeTaller just fine. They have many successful results. Yet, they are still butchers because the risk of getting butchered there is much higher than in the US.

5/6 people also come out "just fine" from playing Russian roulette with a loaded pistol. Doesn't mean it's not a risky thing to do.

I'm curious, how much is accommodation with AFA?
Their Precise is 44 000 and 3 months of treatment, no accommodation.
Dr Birkholtz package is 60 000 with accommodation and food for 3 months.
I would say clear difference with costs could be $10 000 that is not too bad counting that Dr Birkholtz is better quality!

Yes exactly! There’s no reason to go to Turkey when you can go to Birkholtz for just $10K more. Saving $10K isn’t worth the extra risk when we’re talking about the safety of your legs.

Well, Vietnam is a good place to do LL and it is also cheap. Turkey is really not a good idea. There has been so many revelations of how irresponsible Turkey is.

The healthcare in Vietnam is way worse and they only do Tibia LON which is the unsafest thing you can do. If you screw up the tibia+fibula alignment with 2-3mm you with arthisis according to Paley... But no problem guys. When I'm the 3-4 one leaving a verified review of my positive experience with AFA, you guys will hopefully start to realise the ugly truth that not all Turkish surgeons are crap.

Good luck to you guys going with dr Birkholtz who live in the western side of the world, getting home within an 20 hour period with 3 connecting fligths while being crippled. :)

In fact, you can apply to extend your visa and return home only when you have fully recovered and regained your normal walking pace. Many of Dr. B's patients have done the same and they have all done well.

I know but that would be even more costly. I don't know how many people I have read about who doesn't catch their connecting flights. Again his not a bad option except the location. But in my life situation I only have this one year to do LL and don't have anymore money to spend than the about 50000 dollars I'll need with them. Don't have another 75000 dollars if I will have to stay their for 4-6 months...

But I'm going to write a diary once I finished my lengthening process so expect to read about me in January 2024 :)

You do realize you can get someone at the airport to push you in a wheelchair, right? Like they will get someone who works at the airport to either drive you in a little golf cart or push you to exactly where you need to go. Missing your connecting flight is rare. I say this as someone who usually flies at least 30 times in a year...

Getting around in the wheelchair is pretty easy (even without help).

Turkey is indeed a popular destination for limb lengthening surgery. Here are some reasons why it is considered a good choice:

1. Experienced Surgeons
Expertise: Turkey has many experienced and highly qualified orthopedic surgeons who specialize in limb lengthening procedures.
Reputation: Clinics and hospitals in Turkey are known for their high standards and successful outcomes in orthopedic surgeries.
2. Advanced Medical Facilities
Technology: Turkish medical centers are equipped with the latest medical technologies and facilities.
Accreditation: Many hospitals are internationally accredited and adhere to global healthcare standards.
3. Cost-Effectiveness
Affordable: Limb lengthening surgery in Turkey is often more affordable compared to many Western countries.
Packages: Many clinics offer comprehensive packages that include surgery, accommodation, and post-operative care.
4. Medical Tourism Infrastructure
Support Services: Turkey has a well-developed medical tourism infrastructure, providing support services such as language assistance, transportation, and accommodation.
Ease of Travel: The country is well-connected with direct flights from major cities around the world.
5. Post-Operative Care
Rehabilitation: High-quality rehabilitation services are available to ensure a smooth recovery process.
Follow-Up: Many clinics offer thorough follow-up care to monitor the progress and ensure successful outcomes.
6. Cultural and Historical Appeal
Tourism: Patients and their families can explore Turkey’s rich cultural and historical sites during their stay.
Environment: The country offers a pleasant environment for recovery, with various tourist attractions and natural beauty.
Considerations
While Turkey offers many advantages, it is essential to thoroughly research and choose a reputable clinic or hospital. Consulting with previous patients, reading reviews, and ensuring the credentials of the medical team are critical steps in making an informed decision.

From someone that almost did lengthening at AFA, but didn't do so because of a much bigger risk of complications, I honestly feel like the doctor Mustafa Uysal from AFA is pretty knowledgeable and honest. He could have lied to me, but he was honest and told me the truth in details about why this surgery puts me even more at risk of unwanted complications. I have renouads syndrome, very thin bones (he wasn't sure the nail was going to fit) and duckass to begin with... But when it comes to his experience level, their is more experienced doctors out there, that would make more sense to go with, IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY.
