Hi All,

I would love your opinion on this. I am able to afford the procedure in the US, and I have family that would be willing to stay with me for the first three months.

I've heard that the beginning of the whole LL process is insanely emotionally / spiritually taxing, and for this reason I'm thinking that swallowing the extra cost for US care is worth it to have family by my side. However, I also know that people who do it abroad are able to connect and bond with fellow patients throughout the process. (Note: I am not down to do some turkey or india live-in clinic-- I am mostly comparing (A) US oupatient experience with Family by my side, and (B) some European "live-in" experience if such experience exists).

What are your thoughts?

Yes having family for support and to help out with little things around the house is very helpful. It’s a lonely and mentally draining process otherwise.

Okay thanks for the input. Given that I'm now going just for femur, US cost going to be way more manageable.

@CuteIsNotWhatWeAimFor hello there. Personally I have decided to keep as few people informed about the surgery as possible, which originally meant zero. However, it was difficult to keep it completely a secret, especially when I just suddenly dropped out out of my social life. I dont think this surgery is considered socially acceptable, and if your family members can be trusted not to gossip about you, even during a well-intentioned talk. There were few nice topics about it in the past 2 months somewhere here.

Just gotta be a man and own it. Who cares what other people think? It's your life.

It's not like you're going to be able to hide this surgery (unless you're really young). The whole point of this surgery is for it to be noticeable. If it's not noticable, then you just paid a bunch of money for nothing lol.

Dr. Birkholtz facility in South Africa looks really good especially for post op care, but it is quite expensive. You have 3 months with everything included and there seems to be a very professional team around post op. If you have the funds then it’s definetly worth reading up on as an option.

You can hide it as long as its about 5cm. The usual insole -> hair -> flat shoes. After few months, people will just forget/believe that in fact, you have always had this height. Oh and sorry for the typos
