How important is strecthing before surgery?
« on: September 06, 2023, 05:46:45 AM »

In an interview with Birkholtz he mentions how Paley who is the most experienced surgeon in the world, believe that strecthing before surgery barely helps. However most other surgeons recommend to do it before surgery since it should help a decent amount.

What do you guys think?

And how much time do you need before the surgery to strecth in order to see the best benefits?

I did no stretching, but I was already extremely flexible. Can put my hands flat on the ground while bending down knees together that kind of thing.

5.5 months post op, I’m at about 90-95% of my previous range-of-motion / flexibility. No pain. Took a lot of consistent PT to get to this point.

Hello, I have also asked myself these questions and I have investigated a lot. I have been stretching constantly 3 days a week since January of last year, sometimes even on Saturdays. I've become extremely flexible compared to previous years and I definitely think flexibility plays a big part in LL, especially if you gonna do LON or Betzbone femurs.

i personally found great results with stretching before hand. this not only helped me with increasing my baseline flexibility but also helped form the daily habit of stretching everyday

It helps but not that much. Stretching during lengthening is the critical one.

I've been stretching for about 30 days, my health plan even provided me with a physiotherapist that I see 3x a week, but I confess that I haven't made that much progress. My surgery is in 15 days. Stretching is hard as hell!
