Precice nail with a maximum mechanical distraction of 5 cm
« on: September 05, 2023, 08:28:54 PM »

Hi,Guys,I went to the hospital for an interview. The doctor told me that there is a bit of curvature in my femur(which is the normal range for a human being) ,but therefore there are chances that I can only get implanted with a precice nail with a maximum distraction of 5 cm(This short nail can only be distracted by a maximum of 5cm).

Why is it that I've heard so little about this kind of short nail?

Has anyone had the same experience?

because it doesnt exist lol. the smaller nail is less in diameter, meaning it has less weight bearing capacity. but it still has 8cm max distraction

Yes, I didn't think it existed before either... Until he told me about the possibility of implanting a 5 cm nail in me. I found the precice description on nuvasive and here are the three types of nail distracting 5cm, 6.5cm and 8cm. But I don't even seem to have heard of anyone on the forum using this short nail(with 10.7Diameter)...

Might be some niche cheaper nail for specific cases like yours, If it's Nuvasive then you shouldn't be scared.

interesting topic.
It is true that the Nuvasive surgical manual includes a  maximum distraction of 8 cm as well as a 5 cm intramedullary nail.

Perhaps an intramedullary nail with a  maximum distraction of 8 cm is usually used because most people's femurs are not as curved as the OP's.

Also, in addition to ANTEGRADE, there is also RETROGRADE for the femur, which surgical procedure did your doctor suggest?
