Questions About Femur LON
« on: September 02, 2023, 12:35:04 PM »

I am considering getting femur LON to become 178 at least

1. Do I have to stay at the same city as my doctor during the whole process or can I stay at my home and send them xrays as email?
2. How common is getting infection during this process?
3. Will an ordinary orthopedic doctor do fine inspecting my xrays? (in case I need to stay at the same city as my surgeon but it is not possible for me so can I get surgery from a good surgeon and continue the process with an ordinary orthopedic doctor and ordinary physiotherapist?)
4. How much time do I have to wait for removal of external devices if i want to lengthen 6-7 cm (2.5-2.75 inch)?
5. How long will it take me to turn back to normal? (walking, kneeling, running, squating etc.)
Thank you.

Its better if you stay in same city with your doctor incase of infection.
Superfacial infections are common in LON. It would not cause a problem if you have a good woundcare but if you don't it may spread to bone. I guess you can do everything in 6-7 months.

Thank you for your answer. Can doctors at my city help me with infections? How can I fight with infections happening and how can I cure them? (antibiotics or some sort of extra surgeries to cut them off)

How to cure the infection is depends on the type of infection. An Orthopedist must examine and prescribe you necessarry antibiotics accordingly. I do not know if a doctor in your city would accept you as patient because he may refer you back to where you had surgery from. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm going to have the surgery (LON FEMUR) in a city 200 miles from mine and I plan to go back to my home about 30 days after the surgery.

Then go back to the doctor's city only every 10 or 15 days, except if things get ugly.

But it's just a plan for now, and if the doctor thinks I should stay in the city where he works for the entire period, I will.

You are lucky then. 200Miles not that far away. You can hit the road and be there in 3 hours if somethin happens.

Femur LON is at many clinics not safe because they don't give you the proper care after the operation. If the team notices the slightest sign of infection they should you give antibiotics and many clinics don't. They should also clean the pinsites daily, but many only do weekly. Joint stiffness is also a frequent problem with LON that's why you should do even more psychio therapy to hopefully not have those issues after lengthening. Pain is also way way worse with LON on femurs compared to precice.

So to conclude, if you have the money or in the near future can afford precice go for it, the benefits outweights the cost.
