Having surgery in Jan 2024
« on: July 25, 2023, 12:25:44 AM »

Just had my consultation with Dr. Debiparshad. He answered all my questions, and I feel very confident with having the surgery with him. He says they should have the full weight baring nail in November. I have excellent credit at 770, once I pay off my car loan in the next few weeks it should improve, so I'm confident I can get the loan for the procedure. He said the full weight baring nail will be an additional 3-4k for each leg, so not that much more expensive. Going with that nail is the obvious choice, that way I can return to work sooner.

Did Dr.D told you that precice Max was submitted for FDA approval or not? From what I know, it can be released anytime from Nov to May next year. So no guarantee your surgery can happen early next  year.

Okay I think you got everyone’s attention on this, how confident are you/him that it will come out this year in nov? I plan on getting my surgery in sept/oct time but if you assure me that the precise max will come out November I will postpone it and go for that one. Have you got any proof of this?

He told me November , if all goes well with FDA and he said he was confident it will. So I went ahead and emailed Teresa to try and schedule for January. Dr D said it will def be out by then.

I don’t see why anybody would want to get the partial weight , just wait for this one to be released. It’s only a few grand more, and will be out late this year, early next at the latest. He did say there is a good sized wait list , so I’m trying to schedule my surgery in January (giving it time for release)

I agree full weight bearing is the ideal move. but there are a few issues you're missing

1) It's a complete new release. If there are issues with it such as the issues they had with Stryde, or worse, it might not show up until a year later. That's basically what happened with the Stryde right? They couldnt have known about the widespread cohrosion until a huge sample size of people started taking out the nails 1 year later. So you're effectively a ginnue pig. Precise 2.2 has been out for like a decade. It's safe, and the surgeons are super familiar with it. I believe Dr. A even preferred it over the Stryde back when Stryde was still on the market

2) Non Union. One of the issues with Stryde was that it was so good at doing its job that it has a substantial delayed union in patients. Bone likes to be crushed and that's what causes them to grow back quickly. But full weight bearing prevents that from happening effectively, hence it will take longer to fully grow the bone back. Precise 2.2 has a better 1-2 year mark performance. While Pre 1 year, the weight bearing one obviously will be better because of the ability to walk early on.

That said, I would choose precise max over precise 2.2 as well. But just wanted to give some counter arguements.
