Difference between nails in LON and precice
« on: July 18, 2023, 01:59:10 PM »

What's the difference between Precice nail and nail used in LON? I've read that Precice models come in three diameters: 8.5, 10.7 and 12.5 mm (0.33, 0.42, 0.50 inches) and three lenghts, so that may put on gain restrictions if they don't exactly fit in the bone.

What about LON nails? Are they specifically designed for the patient or also come in standard sizes?

In some northern regions of Samogitia, the average height for 20 year old males is around 6'3''.
So yes, you can say I am striving for average. 🙃

This may not be the answer you want, but even if the PRECICE nail does not fit the bone thickness, the lengthening limit is the same.
However, if the nail does not fit the bone thickness, bone deformity may occur.

If the surgeon selects a PRECICE nail of the appropriate thickness for each patient and uses a blocking screw if necessary, deformity will not occur.

On the other hand, for LON nails, surgeons can use many different manufacturers.
For example, Expert Tibial Nails are available in 1mm increments from 8mm to 13mm.

However, the only time a surgeon would choose LON for nail diameter reasons is when the patient's bone is too thin to insert even PRECICE 8.5mm.
