Specifically for anyone who lengthened tibias with externals.
Im not sure why exactly but my experience is more difficult than the average patient.
I'm 2 months post surgery with a hexapod on one tibia.
By now I figured pain should be minimal, and I'll be able to put all weight on my leg. Sadly it's not the case.
I'm still using two crutches for any tiny movement.
I am able to walk some with one crutch, but its with the price of pain in some pin sites.
The pressure of putting full weight on leg sometime make few pin sites have some fluid (serum) come out of it.
The infections: thats a real problem. I realize I'm expected to have infections throughout the whole time I have the fixators on, regardless of how far I'm post surgery.
I do clean them and cover them with sponge, but i try not to "bother" so much pin sites which the skin have closed and dried surrounding the pins.
If anyone has any more tips to avoid infection I'll be happy to hear..
I do take oral antibiotics, I suppose I will keep taking them as long as the fixator is on, to prevent pin tract or bone infection complications....
One pin has a bad infection at the moment with pus discharge. I'm going to ask the surgeon if I can remove the pin without replacing it with another one. I'm hoping it's possible since I finished with lengthening, and perhaps at this stage some pins can be expandable... Has anyone experienced this issue?
Other than that, I could really use any tips or help to be encouraged and go through the coming months, waiting for the bone to consolidate enough so I can remove this demon from my leg..
Do you guys recommended any supplements?
