9 months Post Op - ROM still poor - Any suggestions?
« on: May 03, 2023, 03:35:09 AM »

Hi there,

I am 9 months post op with Dr. Mahboubian out in Los Angeles, California. I am in PT 2 days a week, back to full weight bearing and walking without assistance. However, no matter how much I stretch, kneel, and push to get past 125 degrees - there seems to be a TON of guarding. For reference, I got my femurs done about 9 months ago.

Did any of you guys have ROM challenges like this? Dr. Mahboubian has mentioned forcing the range of motion and breaking up my tendons while I’m getting my rods out. The thought of that makes me a bit queasy.

Was this with a non weight bearing nail?

Did you get an ITB release? This second question is the most important imo for me.

Mahboubian made me lengthen 1 leg 1.33mm a day because of fear of pre consolidation. My bone was coming in way too fast. Had to stop at 7.8cm because I had a really bad contracture in both my legs. Didn’t have ROM even before I started lengthening. I have a major fear that I’m going to be stuck like this

How's your ROM compared to pre surgery?
What does your PT thinks?

Pre surgery I was very flexible, PT seems a bit confused as to why there’s so much muscle guarding in my knees.

Oh ok, because you wrote "Didn’t have ROM even before I started lengthening" so I thought you meant pre surgery but I guess you meant post surgery and pre lengthening?

How experienced is your PT with LL? If he isn't, maybe try to reach out to Moshe Roth? He's a very experienced PT who works with Assyag patients and does remote PT as well.
