How big are the serious risks really?
« on: March 19, 2023, 04:04:20 AM »

Healthy male in late 20's.
Going to Dr.Betz in Germany to do it.
How big are the chances of serious complications? I mean like amputation, getting paralyzed or death. Something permanent that cannot be fixed I mean. Because right now the only thing thats making me scared is me leaving my home country to do this and coming back with no legs or in the worst case dead.
How many people have gotten amputated legs after this surgery or died? Has it happened at the "good" doctors aswell? Dr.Paley I know has no recorded deaths but maybe one or two close death situations from fat embolism I think, has he had any amputations?
And what about Dr.Betz?

Serious complications are rare, but you should expect to have reduced sports activity after LL. Probably 70-80% after max recovery. Not medical advice.

I think you’ll be good if you go to A good reputed doctor. If not, you get crippled like me and now paley has to fix me

70-80% even if I lengthen 5 cm femurs? I have seen some videos of people walking or running and looking weird when walking or running. Would I be like that or would I be able to atleast walk normally?
Serious complications are rare with a good surgeon, I get that. But what does "rare" really mean though? Like have Dr.Paley for example had to amputate someone before?

Look at this video at this time, doesnt he look weird while walking? And he only lengthened 5 cm but in my opinion that looks strange. If this is what 70-80% recovery means then I dont know

The chances of the extreme things you listed are almost 0% with a reputable surgeon.  If you go to india or turkey or something all bets are off, but prob not even the things you mentioned still.

For 5CM on tibias and this being 7 months later this isnt really that bad at all.  This guy will probably fully recover at some point.  Tibias take a longer time to heal and 5CM is not small for them.  His scars look horrible though.

There will be trade offs even if things go well. U cant expect to have such an invasive surgery and have all your biomechanics unchanged.
