Will an aggressive soft ITB release help me?
« on: February 11, 2023, 03:39:54 PM »

I will be getting lengthening soon, and i have asked for a more agressive soft iTB release.
So instead of small cuts , i have asked for deeper and more numerous cuts than is typically done during a soft release. The idea is, with a weight bearing nail, i keep mobility by not having it fully cut, but i sacrifice some loss in mobility, by having the cuts deeper and more numerous.

I want to avoid wide legs, and an element of duck ass as much as possible. Stretching is obviously the key, and the most important thing. Lots and lots and lots of stretching.

However, will getting more cuts, and deeper cuts in my ITB band pre distracting be more beneficial than fewer and less deep cuts?

I think one thing you should ask (and I dont know the answer) is will it even matter if your soft release just heals in a few weeks, considering it will be a few months of lengthing.  Would you be better off with 1 normal soft release during surgery and another normal soft release after lengthening?

Also keep in mind people have done this surgery with no release at all and done your length.

I dont know the answer but just some thoughts.

The difference between "soft" release and "full" release are not the number of cuts or what not but how much of the fascia width you are cutting. I think you should ask orthopedic surgeons about this and not random people who did or did not the surgery.
I am a general surgeon so my knowledge on the specifics is lacking but I think you are not fully knowledgable of what an itb surgery is.

No offence btw
