Does Paley take in patients he did not work on for rehab?
« on: January 25, 2023, 07:28:52 AM »

I am a Becker patient.  I leave tomorrow for the USA.  I would like to stay here for rehab through the full lengthening but I really cant remain in Europe for months.  I think I will be ok on my own especially since I am doing a relatively small lengthening.  I have my stretches and procedures in good order.

However, if I needed help and really became bent out of shape does Paley take in outside patients?

I dont plan on needed this, but just as a backup plan.  I dont even know if it would be worth it.

Contact Paley's physical therapy department directly. Their physical therapy is knowledgeable and very expensive. Their therapist deal with LL patients all the time...You can always do physical therapy on your own or find a company  that is much cheaper. I found physical therapy to be helpful psychologically and pushing me through the exercises. I stopped going once I figured out what to do on my own. Book with the senior therapist Donald or Big Mike if you decide to go with Paley. They have been there almost 10 years

Yeah id only want to go if it made a real difference in my recovery timeline.  I dont mind paying for something if it really makes a difference.  Well see.  Appreciate the advice and the names you mentioned.

How expensive are they? And did you go somewhere else eventually or just did PT on your own for the rest of the lengthening?

PT is part of the package with Paley and the physical therapy is  5 days a week. An hour each session. I am not exactly sure prices for each session. Paley’s PT is not cheap

I found physical therapist in my hometown. First place sucked so I called around and found a different therapist. The second therapist cared and was a lot of help. I stopped going there after I was able to figure out all the exercises and do it on my own

I lengthened 80 mm and definitely lost some athletic ability. Impossible to have it all and I am ok with it because I am not a professional athlete. Trade off was worth it for me. I may do tibia next but don’t want to be greedy

Yeah it's all about trade offs. What are the reasons you're not sure about doing tibia?

More surgery = more risks and don't want to deal with infection, DVT, nerve issue and list goes on if it does happen

Of course, but it's all true for the first surgery as well. Just interesting to see you thinking about it differently now.

Do you think having access to a pool is critical for recovery?  Anything else that might really give an advantage?

pool therapy is not critical and I heard good things about it. I didn’t do any pool therapy myself. Experienced surgeon is a must. He can align the nail correctly  and can deal with complications

Stretching several times a day , diet, and doing resistance training to build the muscles are also important for faster recovery. stay away from smoking, alcohol and anti inflammatory medications
