IT Band Release
« on: January 10, 2023, 10:11:10 AM »

A few questions on IT Band release:

1) Do you need one if you are only doing 5CM on femurs (as I am).  I am supposed to get a soft release tomorrow along with the LL surgery, as its standard now at Betz, but curious if its really necessary.

2) Ive heard of wide legs starting at even 3CM if there is no soft ITB release, but is this normal?  And how long would it take to correct wide legs?

3) How is the soft release scar?  The IT band scar is lower on the femur so it will be seen even if wearing shorts.  Is it a small scar?  Is it worth it to get it even with the scar?

I called Becker and he went into more detail.

He said it will just make the whole process easier and is advisable.  Its very hard to stretch the IT band unlike muscle.

He also said the scars will be very small and at mid-thigh, not lower thigh.  So more hidden.

Definitely listen to Becker‘s advice. It‘s really good the way they did it, I am very satisfied with it.

Scars are basically none from it. Those are the tiniest scars if any, I can‘t even find them anymore. In the beginning they were like tiny dots, like a very small birth mark.
Scars I would say most of them fade pretty well and the only one that I probably gotta really live with is the nail incision scar as those are the biggest. But honestly they are at a point that‘s always covered with underwear anywhere (hips) and even nked they aren‘t that visible.
Don‘t worry about scars.

according to Dr Paley , IT band release is needed for 5-8cm of lengthening
for less that that, its not needed (like 4cm in option 5)
