Lack of Diaries for internal mechanical tibia nails
« on: January 09, 2023, 01:21:31 AM »

There's the one Betz patient on IG, but how is there lack of anyone else that did tibias with Betz or Guichet or any other mechanical clicking nail?  Perhaps there are more poor outcomes?

Just precise and LON.  Is it inherently rare that someone does mechanical weight bearing on tibias? I don't know if Stryde worked in the tibias.

Doctors generally encourage femurs with internal nails, especially Guichet.  And since most people only get this surgery once, that's why.

1.tibias take longer to heal(lesser blood supply) and are more painful(tighter compartment).Infact, guichet discourages people from doing tibias (there was this guy simons on this forum who got convinced by guichet to do 10cm more on his femurs after he had already done 7.5cms on them a few years back , rather than going for tibias)

2.tibia surgery is more complex since you have to insert the nail through the knee joint and take the fibula into account as well(incorrect pinning can lead to rotational/misalignment defects(aka floating fibula - fibula gets left behind compared to tibia)

3.Like medium drink of water said , most people do femurs first(that's the adage even on this forum) and most do the surgery only once

stryde works for tibias , see My evolution's diary

Height journey said that tibias were less painful than femurs for him though.

the lengthening phase of femurs is more painful (due to stretching of bigger muscle groups)
but the consolidation phase of tibias is more painful (due to stretching of nerves in a tighter compartment)

Hey Leon, as a fellow Betz patient, I’m sure you’re aware the vast majority of Betz LL patients don’t even know this forum exists let alone write diaries. So the lack of an internet footprint doesn’t mean it’s never done.

When I was in Germany I saw a few betz tibia patients who seemed to be doing really well. I was actually planning on doing tibs after, but femurs is enough for me.

There's no stretching of nerves in the consolidation phase. It's just misinformation.

Yea I mean you can always assume something but the truth is there is a lack of diaries because of one reason only.
There is comparably few people that do tibia with Betzbone.
They encourage heavily to do femur and most people are done after one LL and don‘t want another one.
In my time I have seen and heard of only one person that did tibia, which is maxheight35.
And out of all LL patients only few do a diary here.

If I will do tibia I will definitely do it with betzbone again in the future

I think there may be at least some truth to it if it's phrased differently.  My calf muscles have to work much, much harder when I walk than before LL.  They got really big during the recovery phase.  My tibialis anterior muscles couldn't even grow enough to handle the increased workload, so I developed exertional compartment syndrome.

I'm not sure if femur patients experience the same thing.  Any femur veterans want to weigh in on this?
