6'2 Lengthening for Length Discrepancy
« on: December 31, 2022, 04:16:19 PM »

Hello!

I am currently recovering from the surgery.  I'm having this done only on my left leg because I have a leg length discrepancy.  My right leg is about 4 cm longer.  Using a fitbone to lengthen fib / tib and femur.

I've been reading about people talking about running and mobility, etc.  Because my lengthening is only in one leg, is not that much (in comparison to many) and is spread between the two leg segments, how much do you think my mobility will be affected?

Feel free to ask me anything!

Who was your doctor? Why fitbone? What's the maximal lengthening capacity of this nail?

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Dr. Dyskyn, he recommended the fitbone for me.  My doctor has lots of experience with the fitbone and that was what he wanted to use.  He's great and I competely trust his expertise so I did that.  I also know that the fitbone and the surgery was completely covered by the insurance so perhaps that plays a role?  But I can't say for sure.  And I'm sorry, I actually don't know what the maximal lengthening capacity of this nail is.  Sorry

So you are using fitbone in femurs and tibia too? 2 surgeries if I understood right ?
Still, if your doctor knows what he is doing then no, 4cm (about 2cm in each segment) won't cause you any problem at all.

You are correct.  Femur and tibia.  I guess you could call it two surgeries.  Although, it was all done at one time.  Asleep once.

And that is really good to hear.  I can't wait to get back to running.

Wondering how you’ve recovered @lldnotforme. I had about a 3cm LLD and had it fixed about 4 years ago. Best decision I ever made in my life, change my life for the better every single minute! I did all the correction in the femur.
