If you can afford these two doctors, my vote is Betz

Paley:
- has alot of experience
- says he has a good record of getting people back full function
- from how many LL surgeries he's done, he has experience dealing with rare complications if that comes up
- conservative approach / limits length
- biggest problem: no good weight bearing internal nails in the USA (not his fault)-> end up using precise and in wheelchair a long time
- precise nail can reverse length (shorten) if something goes wrong

Betz
- also has alot of experience, but maybe somewhat less
- he claims that Betzbone 2.0 has easier clicking than some other clicking nails (based on his videos + my experience with gnail, I think this might be true)
- He is passing the torch to Becker, who has less experience but has some plastic surgery experience which you may or may not like
- In the cyborg4life interview, says he lets people go to work a bit earlier, he seems to let people leave the area earlier (might be good or bad, not sure, depends on how much support you can get when you go back home)
- lets people do more length (you can see this is a good or bad thing, I see it as neutral since someone can just voluntarily choose to do less length if this is a concern)
- betzbone nails can't go in reverse (shorten) if something goes wrong (but I think betz also offers precise)  -> can negate this problem partially by just doing less length
- WEIGHT BEARING NAILS (betzbone 2.0) -> except for clicking pain/stress, it will be an easier experience b/c will be able to walk sooner. About clicking pain: based on the forum posts, it seems that femur clicking is more painful than tibia clicking but I've noticed that often my clicking pain for gnail is sometimes very low pain/sometimes no problem. Can manage the pain with ice packs
- I don't think you will be healing faster ----but, because of weight bearing, I think you will be walking with crutches sooner (there is a difference)

I think that if I had infinite money, I'd probably do betzbone femur and tibia with Betz but insist on paying extra for at least 5+ days of physio per week and staying in his area for doctor visits + paying to be near a pool and help getting inside. However,  this may not be realistic, I believe that alot of patients don't do this and instead leave the area quickly-ish

I personally think the clicking pain/ability to walk w/ crutches earlier with Betz's weight bearing nail is worth it, but I'm not completely sure. Paley always talks about in his interviews how safe and experienced he is, so idk

Anyone wanna correct me or add something?

I don't think betzbone will heal faster it'll just allow weight-bearing but you'll still be limited and can only walk inside your house and maybe to get a taxi or something.

I don't think it will heal faster. But I do think you will be walking sooner. I can change the wording I guess

Alright I fixed it I think

I'll say this though:

in Athens, for precise patients they use the walker only for short distances for a while until much later in the healing. There are some exceptions for some people with good bone healing, I think some of them start walking with crutches earlier than someone might expect with precise but still takes a while

for gnail patients in Athens, we use the crutches for walking much earlier (some ppl 1-2 weeks start walking with crutches) and for longer distances. 1-2 hours of walking per day with crutches seems to be a common thing the doc asks us to do with gnail

Did you advise getting the surgury with giotikas?

I think go with Betz instead. I did Guichet-nail with Dr. Giotikas. I'm having some hip pain in my right leg and numbness on my right shin (the big click of the right leg for gnail is a bit difficult/painful for some people, I wonder if that is related). I heard that Betz's nail is a bit easier for clicking (probably true based on his videos compared to the gnail videos, not 100% sure)

yeah idk its sort of like

Betz: the weight bearing with Betzbone 2.0 will be very convenient, you will be able to walk with crutches much sooner

Paley: him and the many surgeons under him at the Paley institute claim to have very good results in terms of getting people to full function. I believe them.

I can't prove it, but I wonder if possibly Betz patients have more challenges on average to deal with because they tend to go for more length on average-- while Paley limits them to 8 max femurs and 5 max tibias (unless you do rebreak, then you can do a bit more on tibias later). But I'm not sure you'd want to do more than 8+5=13 cm total (proportions, arm might start to look short compared to legs, etc) depending on your arm length

Its sort of like "well I'll have a nicer experience with betzbone (excluding clicking pain) probably because of weight bearing/being able to walk with crutches sooner" but with Paley its like "well he is one of the best in the USA, he takes a conservative approach with length, I'll probably be safe with him". The other thing is Paley has alot of surgeons under him it seems-- I mean I think that they are all very good, but its not guaranteed that Paley himself is doing the surgery

It might be worth it to ask for an IT band release with Betz (I think he does it regularly now based on what recent forum members have said, not sure though). I do physio 4 times a week and I went with a different doctor but I sort of wish I had physio 5+ times a week (maybe not required if you're dedicated, but I think Paley does it and I think its good)

There is a guy in Athens who did not do IT band release for femurs (he did LL somewhere else, not in Athens) and now has V shaped legs he is trying to fix

Nah, I'm doing this now and there is only physio 4 days a week. I think it might be better to go with a doctor who's program does more physio than that 4 days per week if you have the money. I have never asked about paying extra to do more, I wonder if I should have. I mean 4 times per week is probably fine if you're dedicated

its not really required at all to do more, I mean we are recovering and its probably fine. But if you have the money to consider Paley I think you might as well have physical therapists work on you more than 4 days a week

From what I’ve heard Paley is mostly occupied with developing new technology & equipment these days I doubt he’s operated or consulted an LL patient in years.

Yeah I sort of wonder which other LL doctors at the Paley institute aside from Paley are considered top LL doctors, I imagine there must be alot. I mean on this forum we have heard about Dr. Robbins alot at the Paley Institute and forum members seem to have a great impression of him.  I'm not sure who else commonly does cosmetic LL at the Paley institute

This is false. He was at my consultation and did my surgery alongside Dr. Robbins. Don't spread nonsense. Ty
