What should I do? And how long will it take
« on: November 27, 2022, 06:26:28 PM »

This is going to be a long post but hopefully the community can give me some great ideas.

I did some height measuring over the past couple days:
I am currently 178.1 cm night height and 179.8 morning height. I usually stay at around 178.4 cm throughout the evening.

I also gained about 1cm stretching over several years of doing yoga. I remember when I was 23 I was only 177cm.

I have been wearing lifts since I was 21 and I just turned 30 so I am having a bit of a mid life crisis lol. I’ve kept it secret from everyone including my ex girlfriend who I dated for 4 years. I usually wear thick sneakers that give me 3.5 cm and then insert a 2.5cm lift. I wear two pairs of socks to give me a total of about 6.2cm added height. So when I have my shoes on I look to be about 184.3 night height. This height has worked well for me with girls, but I truly can’t enjoy life. I can go to the beach, walk around the house without wearing baggy pants and on tippy toes around other ppl. It’s actually quite miserable in that sense, since I used to love being by the ocean and swimming when I was younger.

Anyways I have been look to get LL. I know alot of ppl are going to   on me and tell me to be happy at 178cm but honestly wearing these lifts for the last 9 years, as well as getting a lot more attention from woman (I’ve tried upwards of 184.5 cm and it helps but diminishing returns) I can’t leave this height.

I am looking to do 3.5-3.8 cm femurs with Paley. What do you all think? I have the money and a work a remote software job. I know the risks but I’m hoping with just doing this amount I can somewhat reduce these risks as well as get on with my life quicker.

At +3.5 I should be either 180.5-181.5 (depending on if that stretched height goes away). I feel like either of those are fine with me and will clear my height neurosis.

Talking with doctors I just don’t trust them, since part of their consultation is a pitch. How long do you all think it would take me to get walking fine after lengthening 3.5-3.8 cm conservatively? I do hit the gym frequently have a pretty strong upper body as well as do yoga about 3-4 times a week so I’m decently flexible.

Also if anyone has any other ideas for like a 1-2 cm gain (not stretching since I maxed that out) I would love to hear it and at 179.5ish might not even do LL as I can just “fake” 1-1.5 cm somehow.

Thank you all.

This "I am X tall with shoes on" is such bull  lol. Everyone wears shoes... Tall and short men all wear all types of shoes so you are never 184.5cm tall but you are 180 (your height+insoles) who is wearing shoes... This alone should help you realize that whatever insecurity you have, it has nothing to do with actual reality outside of your mind. Those 2cm of insoles are not what is improving drastically your love life and attention from women but the fact that you feel tall and more secure. At your height and for the fact that those are only 2cms who you think have such a huge impact on your life, I would tell you to either forget about this surgery alone or through therapy. If you can't beat your insecurity than do LL with a good surgeon and be ready to sacrifice (for the lengths you want to add) 6 months

I mean everyone wears shoes but some people wear shoes with a 1cm heel height, 2cm heel height etc.

So by having thicker shoes I am “gaining” in that respect compared to my peers when I go out to pick up women.

Also, I do agree with what you are saying somewhat that the height increase is making me feel tall and more confident. But it’s not a 2cm though I don’t really think ur really doing the math correct it’s about 3cm which actually does make quite a difference.

That 3cm difference pushed me from about 50%  percentile to about 75% percentile. That’s a pretty big jump.

So even with a gain of 3.5 cm I should not be walking before 6 months? As much as I feel like your post has both some great points it seems to be laced with anger and 6 months from what I read to walk seems like a very conversation estimate for 3.5 cm.

I’m asking for your advice and I appreciate you gave some great things to think about, but why does it have to be filled with so much hate and anger.

I think it's a great idea. Disclaimer: I am in a similar boat.

No amount of therapy will cure this, even if 3.5 cm "don't matter" it matters in my head. I am willing to go to great lengths so that I stop thinking about height every day. Those 3.5 cm are "only 3.5 cm" but they are the difference between a clear mind and a height obsession.

Just make sure you pick a height that clears your mind. If 1 extra cm will make it so u won't wear insoles, then go for 4.5 cm. I think femurs are safe under 5.5 cm and you will probably be walking okay at around 5 months with precice 2.2 if you are young.

Good luck.

I think it's ~5 days post surgery when lengthening begins with precise and Paley. If memory serves less for 20 yr olds and more for 40+ guys. Femurs are safer and faster recovery.  Given you say only 3.5-3.8cm then likely you will manage without having to slow down for soft tissues, which means 1mm/day. I think technically they lengthen 2mm during surgery to be sure the nail is working properly. Might only be 5 days plus 35 days, for total 40 days. Everyone is different, no guarantees, but common is for consolidation to take as long as lengthening. Assume another 40 days for typical consolidation. If you work hard with exercises Paley PT will give you and the stretching, and use your walker a lot, and walk in the pool a lot, you'll minimize muscle loss. Given shorter timeframe you'll probably be able to recover fairly quickly. It's possible your walking normally 4 months post op if you're really only doing 3.8cm precise. It's also possible you grow bone slowly and Paley or Robbins have you slow down to 0.5-0.75mm per day, and it's possible a nail malfunctions and has to be replaced or something else goes wrong. If you're not a vegetarian, 4 months is realistic, if you work hard (note: most people say/think they do but don't actually).  It could take till 5-6+ months post op for you to walk normally if you're not dedicated.  During my LL, I met a Paley patient that could not walk normally ~1.5 years post op after 7-8cm LL. He noted being vegetarian was detrimental to his recovery, so consolidation took forever and hence muscles completely wasted away. It's also possible to lengthen 7.3cm and go hiking and ski black diamonds in CO ~7.25 months post op. Results vary a lot by patient, there are no guarantees. Good luck with your LL journey.

No problem I might have just been reading it that way. I do really appreciate your advice and points, has made me really reflect if this surgery is worth it.

What if you're vegetarian but take protein powder every day? I'm sure it's not such a drastic difference to recovery

I don't know. I'm no expert on diet/supplements/etc best for LL. Ask your LL doctor.  I only met one vegetarian patient and he said he was warned his diet would lead to slower recovery before his LL and that's what happened to him when he did his LL.

nuts and avocado works too . extra protein intake helps heal faster.
