G-nail recovery after a year, different than other nails?
« on: November 14, 2022, 03:09:36 PM »

It's been over a year since my G-nail surgery and I am fully consolidated. In my experience, I am still no where near full recovery. By full recovery, I mean being able to do 90% of everything I was able to do before surgery without assistance. I am able to walk well, but I still can't climb stairs well. Going up stairs is hard but not too hard. Going down stairs is very hard and looks obviously awkward to other people. I am definitely not able to run well.

Weirdest problem is that I still sometimes hear click noises. Every single day I hear multiple noticeably loud click that comes from the nail. This sound is not normal leg popping noises that occur to normal people. This is a clicking sound that you hear from the nail. But I think this is probably a 'fake click' since X-rays looks normal. Not sure if other G-nail veterans experienced this.

For other weight-bearing internal femur veterans, is your experience similar to mine where you weren't able to go down stairs perfectly even over a year after surgery? Or was your recovery much faster?

If you are fully consolidated maybe you should consider getting the nail out. I hope that'll make things better for you. I was thinking about doing betzbone in tibia but not anymore I'll just stick with precice because my femur recovery is very good after doing precice.

it has been 6 months since the surgery for me, I am healing well in my right leg, my left leg is lagging behind as the proximal screw is protruding and causing me muscle weakness and pains at the screw site / hip area and knee pain. hoping this subsides during removal and itb heals along with whatever other tissue has been damaged - the muscle should equalise on both sides eventually.

currently I am close to running, I would say I would be able to run now if it wasnt for the left side screw issue - I also hear these ‘fake clicks’ although they are infrequent and usually only when i twist my leg (these do not elongate bone, bone is very strong) i only hear these clicks on my left leg where I have the screw issue - this could be connected.

will update if I have these issues after screw removal.

asdfg how is your jumping?

how is your balance on one leg with your eyes closed - how long can you hold this?

can you hop up and down on one leg?

do you have any residual pains?

when do these clicks occur most commonly?

also your issue with stairs maybe be a stabiliser issue, making them stronger could resolve your issue what do you think?
