I think even with small amounts you will lose athletic ability in the long term. So if you want to be an athlete stay away from this surgery. It’s a very big surgery for the body and that alone will put you back so much. The deal we all take is that we won’t become professional sports people anymore. If you aren’t comfortable with that don’t do it. I also think it’s a waste of time, money, pain, risks, major surgery to only lengthen 3cm. At 3cm I was feeling absolutely 0.00000 difference at all. I only started to notice around 4.5cm. So rather make the decision if you want to grow taller and feel better or become an athlete.
Of course you will be able to play soccer or stuff like that but probably not as before if you have done it somewhat professionally.
I was a hobby sports climber before and I knew my strengths and how hard I could climb. One day I will return and test out if I can reach my pre op state. I am pretty sure I will never be able to though because long legs suck for climbing as the body center of mass will be pushed out too much and I doubt my muscles will be that strong. But we will see. It was a price I was consciously willing to take as my heightmisery was much more hindering me than my sports hobby could ever remotely compensate.
