Knee pain post LON opreation
« on: September 25, 2022, 06:54:55 PM »

Hey Guys,

I have recently finished my femoral lengthening using LON method and achieve around 3 inches ,I am almost 16 days post fixator removal  all want good except constant knee pain especially when I apply load on the leg when walking or setting down , I have been told it is due to muscles weakness was wondering if this is something that would go away as I feel this is hindering my walk

other observation is that I started to notice that my legs are pointing outwards especially when I am laying down like duck feet , is this due to muscle weakness and would go with time as a result , I can tell that my hip muscles are still tight and I know this when I cross my legs together I feel tension in the upper thighs

Thanks,

So bad noticing how some very useful and important topics/questions here get ignored, while the drama-related stuff has plenty of participants...

I am undergoing lengthening right now and I have also developed very debilitating knee pain on the inside of my left knee, but only when the leg stays fully stretched for a while. Both the doctor and physiotherapist told me this is not uncommon and nothing to worry about, probably due to muscle weakness and prolonged lack of movement, so I came here to see if anybody had similar experiences. I am doing LON tibia, by the way. The pain is not located where the nail incision is, but on the inside, as I said and it goes when I bend the knee (and keep it bent).

I have been reading most of the new comments on this forum. I just didn't bother to comment because I didn't know what to say :P
When did you do the surgery?

How bad was the pain? And when did extreme pain start showing?
I'm planning to do 5.5 cm and I'm worried about the scars and the extreme pain.

Knee pain could be because of the nail insertion. Some times it get better when the nail is removed, specially if it is protuding outside of the tibia. Normally it's a minor pain.

Nah, my pain is anything but minor. It is not exactly where the nail was inserted, it is medial knee pain (the inside of the knee). The doctor did not believe it was related to the surgery, as the pain only started several weeks after that. I only get it when I keep my leg stretched for a while. After that bending the knee again is both painful and difficult. It's kind of like the joint seizes up after being fully stretched for a while.

I am also getting really bad pain around one of the pins nearby, but in the opposite situation, that is when I have been sitting for a while and then I try and stretch the leg completely, I feel like the pin starts pressing down and digging into the side of my knee, keeping me from stretching it out entirely. I then have to wait a bit and move the knee a few times for it to settle.
