There was a blanket with a huge blood stain on it. I threw it out repeatedly but Tang Jie kept bringing it back and putting it on my bed just to mess with me. Eventually I got an idea: I soaked it in water in the bathtub, wadded it up, and put it in the freezer with the blood stain facing outward.
I told Gao Jie that I had killed one of the cats that lived on the hospital grounds (there were several) and stuffed it in the freezer. She spit on the floor and walked out.
My roommate thought this was hilarious. We'd been trying to think of something funny to do with the blanket, and I actually thought of this and went ahead and did it while he was out getting x-rays done. Wang Bei approached him on the way back to ask him about it, and he said he didn't know.
Wang Bei got scared of me and avoided the room for a while, and continued asking other patients if I was crazy and if I had really killed a cat.
I asked the chef if he would cook the cat and serve it to me. He said he couldn't do that. Menu items only.
I told Wan Jun what happened. She said she never thought I had done it, and that she would have admired me if I had, because successfully hunting a cat while being wheelchair-bound would've been an incredible feat. Her roommate WHO WAS LENGTHENING 13 CM ON TIBIAS
(who I didn't know spoke English) overheard and started spreading the story around among the Chinese patients and staff.
Xiao Yan asked me which cat I killed, and I told her it was the orange cat. Some of the other nurses moaned and wailed when this was translated for them, but another English-speaking nurse mentioned that she had recently seen the orange cat and doubted my story.
It all unraveled over the next few days. Xiao Yan came to the room and took the blanket and put it out in the courtyard to thaw out. Of course, when there was no cat, Wang Bei came back and said I had damaged the blanket and had to pay for it. I considered refusing since this was a false accusation but my roommate said he'd split it with me, and I just went ahead paid to put the whole incident behind me. I think Tang Jie was having a good laugh about it the whole time.
So that's my experience dealing with difficult hospital staff like Tang Jie.
