2nd Lengthening - Tibia Lengthening
« on: August 08, 2022, 04:04:26 PM »

Hi everyone,

I am planning on having my 2nd lengthening. I had femur lengthening at the Paley Institute in 2019 with Stryde and had my nails removed in November 2021 as I couldn't fly back out to the US due to COVID. I have made a full recovery and am now ready for my Tibia lengthening next year. I just want to ask if anyone else had the Stryde nail and then the Precise after and if there is a huge difference in what you are able to do? I was able to do most things on my own with the Stryde and I am hoping as I only weight 90 pounds (148cm Female) I will be able to with the Precise 2.2 as it can weight bare 50lb on each leg I believe?

I would be grateful if those who have lengthened with the Precise can share there thoughts and experiences!

precice on tibia will cost you 6months of wheelchair life and almost definitely require you to hire someone else for doing chores.

Thanks for your reply. Have you done Tibia with Precise? Can anyone tell me their experience if you was wheelchair bound for the 6 months or if you was using the walker / crutches? I have read that you will be using the crutches / walker but want to hear other peoples experiences?

HeightJourney is likely a good resource for you. He's got a YouTube and blog in addition to his journal. Given you are 90lbs you'll likely be able to move around with a walker easily enough. I did femurs with precise 75lbs but weighed 185lbs and I was trapped in my wheelchair. Like you and HeightJourney2021 I want to come back and do my tibias. When is your tibia surgery?

For precise tibias, how long were you in a wheelchair for? Someone suggested it might be for 6 months

I am hoping to do 4-6 cm on tibias with precise someday

I don't believe there is g-nail as an option for tibias

being 90 pounds , you’ll have a much easier time and you may even be able to walk with a walker for a few steps at a time!

My patient HeightJourney has an amazing blog that details tips and tricks with PRECICE nail.

Stryde was a non union /delayed union machine for tibias. precice is amazing.

Let me know if you need anything else :)

I just had precise back in April . still has them in me .

I can do most things with a walker .

I bought an electric wheelchair to help with daily life and its pretty easy to get around .

Precise nail can support 75 lbs each leg , its 150 lbs with both legs .

Hope this helps.

What are your thoughts on precise 2 vs betzbone for tibias? I heard that for betzbone tibias they can walk much sooner because its weight bearing, but I'm a bit wary because no USA doctor seems to be using a weight bearing internal tibia nail
