How bad is chronic knee pain?
« on: July 17, 2022, 05:53:54 PM »

I underwent tibia LON recently

I currently have knee pains but it’s understandable because I’m still early in my surgery

Im so scared of potentially having chronic knee pain in the future,  I wanted to ask… How bad is the pain?

Is it a constant pain that never goes? Or only when you do sports or put a lot of pressure on knees?

And how bad is the pain?

Is it easily manageable or does it affect your quality of life?

Thanks guys

Pain is very subjective and depends on the individual, but for me my left leg is a little over 2cm  than my right ( not sure if this is genetics or not, but I did get hit by a car in my left leg when I was like 8 ) and if I play sports a lot I'll have lot of pain in my hips the next day ( I'll limp because of the pain ). For my friend he has chronic back pain ( I think mostly because he's 6'3 but it's genetics not LL ) and he always complain about it and it definitely seems to have impact in his daily life seeing how he goes to a specialist regularly.

For me I really don't care about my pain but it would be nice to minimize or get rid of it when I get my surgery in 2024. Overall this is a subject that you should be discussing with your Surgeon as people in this forum don't know you personally or your medical information.

are you planning to spam the forum for months every day about your pain?
we told you to wait 3-4 months for your trauma to heal as youve had a MAJOR surgery which left you with 4 broken bones, 4 screws drilled into your proximal tibial cortexes, 2 dissected knee tendons, and 2 steel rods hammered with FORCE deep into your tibias.

Then few weeks after that you had a new surgery to remove the external frame and drill 4 new screws in the lower part of your tibias.

Stop being hysterical and focus on your recovery.

If after 3-4-5 months you still feel something then come here and ask about it, preferably after consulting with your surgeon first.

Yeah, my knee is aching all the time atm, I am trying to wean myself off Tramadol/Endone,  but then again i only stopped my 3/8cm femur LL 7 days ago, based on my last LL in 2019 You def gotta give urself a few months after LL to decide how permanent your pain will be.

Thank you so much bro.  Could you please take a look at my situation here that I posted :

I’d love to hear your opinion as someone who had undergone this surgery.

Essentially I only lengthened like 0.9cm and currently I have a ache in my knees and a sharp pain in my left knee when I do certain movements. My Dr said this is all because I’m still early in healing and because of inflammation. He said it will go away.

Thanks man!

I have done internal rods on both femurs, due to nail complications i have had 4 rods and a 30cm plate so far...
My experience is not directly applicable to your (Tibia CLL) situation, but i did have 4 nails inserted through knee so there maybe some overlap in our experiences RE knee pain.
I agree your XRay seems to show some misalignment in the lateral view, I am not sure how this will impact you long term (probably not greatly tbh), but at the moment i agree it maybe causing short term pain.
After one CLL surgery I had strong knee pain when flexing the knee for 2 years (max 120 deg flexion) , my Doctor insisted my knee pain was due to a torn meniscus and was permanent and would not improve - eventually I organised an Oblique XRay and found he had inserted a too long nail and it was impinging on a tendon, I had the screw removed and my knee became pain free and I now have 135 deg knee flexion - moral of the story is that this is your body, and there is nothing wrong with obtaining a second opinion.
Maybe before your bone has fully fused it is best to get a second opinion now about the lateral tib/nail alignment - and try to obtain Lat/AP/Oblique Xrays to identify screw placement more accurately than the standard AP/Lat view.
