which height wouls you claim
« on: June 15, 2014, 12:21:22 AM »

If someone's 183 at his lowest and between 183 and 184 during the day, which height do you think he should claim and get away with it?
I'd go with 184 as it's 183,5 almost all day plus shoes add 1,5 cm, so you add that 0,5 cm from shoes to your height and it still sounds reasonable

Always the highest!  Especially since everyone sees him during the day at 183.5

If he's a liar yes!  :P

But a loot of peeps exaggerate their height by 2 to 5cm so no big deal!

My cousin just met a girl who thought she was 1m83 and she was in fact 1m78, very common!

Why is that such a bad thing? If it makes them happy, then why not? It's a lot safer than LL. You can use your height relative to them to make you come off as taller as well.

because this kind of people is perceived as short, and when they tell they re 5'11 other people believe it and associate 5'11 with these people , so they start thinking that 5'11 is short and when a real 5'11 guy comes in he is seen virtually as short because of previous guy and leads to problems not only for the real 5'11 guy, but also for the 5'9 because people will associate 5'11 with that guy and will start thinkin that 5'11 is not tall enough and that guy who lied will probably experience a bad moment since 5'11 is not enough but he isn't even that height

Good point about height exaggeration screwing over the truly 5'11 people. It may be selfish, but I don't know how claiming 5'11 can hurt the 5'9 guy if he gets away with it. Sure, he may get rejected, but he would still have gotten rejected if he had had claimed 5'9, so there is no potential for harm (again assuming that he's not caught lying) and much to win (more dates and friends). Still, I wholeheartedly agree that it's not fair to the true 5'11 people. This seems to be the only major con to exaggerating height a little. But they can just claim 6'1 and do even better in dating because they can claim to be over 6 feet. Everyone knows that, in the dating game, men are two inches taller and ten pound lighter  ;D

Almost every "I'm exactly six feet" person I know is really 5'11 or a smidgen over that. The only people who claim to be 5'11 are almost always a little shorter, but feel that they can't get away with 6 feet.

Sometimes I feel that growing to 5'11 is like running a marathon and stopping one block short of the finish line. So, so close to truly being that high-status six feet but not truly there. That's why so many 5'11 men have spiky hair  ::)

I've heard many women say that whenever they see a guy's height online they automatically reduce it by two inches. So if the 5'9 guy puts his true height of 5'9 she may think to herself he's really 5'7, which is where the exaggeration from 5'9 to 5'11 would come in because she'd probably expect him to really be 5'9 in reality anyway. Of course this is mainly in terms of online dating.

i created an account on okcupid, just to check how tall are american, i just focused on young people since i didn't have much time.
I saw many guys who were 5'9", 5'10", 5'11".I saw more people who were 5'10" than 6'0", which make me think that americans are rather fair when claiming height, even if some inflate their height by 1 or 2 inches

I contribute to global height exaggeration by claiming a strong 175 cm.

When I actually tell people I'm a strong 5'7" and weak 5'8" they don't believe it and think I'm fishing for a compliment.
