What exercises help to stop walking like a penguin

The title says it all. What workouts can I do (on top of walking) that will help the penguin walk?

Do you mean to walk not like penguin? And penguin walk, is it like walking very slow?

Shouldn't you ask your PT this question? For me, weighted side and back leg lifts and walking exercises with an elastic band around the ankles helped.

You need exercises that specifically target your 'glute med' and core - clamshells and lateral leg raises are my physio's favorites.

If you can do squats, do them. Numba 1 exercise. Targets key muscles in your legs, including those near your hip that could cause waddling if atrophied

Thanks Below, Cartman, and Pandemic. It sounds like squats and lateral/rear lifts are the way to go. My PT has had me doing those for a while but if that’s all there is I’ll just increase the frequency and see if I can’t fix this ridiculous waddle

@Fracturepoint - you should see if you have a positive Trendelenburg sign. If so, the culprit is weak glute medius and what the others said in addition to simply standing on one leg for as long as possible to boost the muscular strength and endurance of the glute med so you can normalize the gait sooner

Thanks Cyborg, I’ll definitely add that to the repertoire. Ive been a bit hesitant to try those one legged balancing acts but perhaps with some balancing supports on either side JIC.
