From USA to Germany BETZ INSTITUTE (Dr. Augustin)
« on: April 30, 2022, 07:18:30 AM »

What are your thoughts on BETZ INSTITUTE (Dr. Augustin) in 2022?

My questions are:

My plan is to go to Germany for 2 weeks. Then go home. Do the femur lengthening w/ betzbone and consolidation at home. Then go back to remove the nail later

Whats the worst case you have seen with Dr. Augustin?
Has anyone ever died from Dr. Augustin?
What about non union or serious other complications?
Has anyone ever been permanetly paralyzed and could never walk again?
Any previous patients of betzbone that did something similar or did you stay in germany for the whole year? or periodoically come back?

Im a somewhat fit regular male with no prior health related problems.

He is 72. That worries me because this is a surgery that requires dexterity. I wish he had a good successor surgeon exclusively trained in orthopaedics and deformity correction to use his technology and protocols because everyone will hang up their gloves one day. Having a team is always the best.

His center seems good but it's in an isolated place far from the big cities. People do not speak much English outside of his office. You might have to depend on his team for almost everything.

Two weeks might not be too bad. I dont speak german. I'll go alone there and back to usa. But going under surgrey and all that i wonder how hard it will be. I read about the masterHY guy whatever happened to him? It seems that was the old betzbone? It seems everyone so far on the new betzbone has been good?

I'm a recent Betz patient. I don't think age is a problem with Betz. Even at his age he is: energetic, strong, sharp and will stay until every question is answered. I think the issues with Betz is that he over exaggerates things and he tends to ignore you once you leave Germany. I sent him xrays more than 3 weeks ago and I haven't gotten a reply. Luckily I sent the same xrays to Paley & Assayag at the same time and got prompt responses from both the next day. I think if something went wrong while lengthening in my home country, I would have been screwed.

Betz Institute is transitioning from Betz to Dr.Becker. From my brief encounter with Becker he seemed to be a nice guy. Sounds like he's been training under Betz for a few years. However its hard to gauge how good he'll be once he starts doing this on his own.

He could be an exception then if he is as energetic, strong and sharp as you say at 72.

As for the other doctor, is he also a cosmetic surgeon (doing non-ortho surgeries)? If so, that is a bit of concern. I have never seen an ortho surgeon do non ortho surgeries anywhere. And to add to it, LL is a more specialised ortho surgery. I think even if you spend all your time on it as a surgeon, it will not be enough. Many LL surgeons probably wish they had more time to do some research, write some papers, take on some other patients, teach other surgeons, attend conferences.

True if i get i want it for sure from doctor Augustin is my goal.

It seems many people have gotten sucess with much major complication going for 10cm.

Is the new betzbone 2.0 really that good?
It seems all the issues were previous betzbone?
Do most people who and stay the 2 weeks in germany how was it? are there any betzbone 2.0 journals or patients out there?
I wonder how many lifetime betzbone 1 and 2.0 have been installed? There seems to be no flaw beside clicking painful and the nail only goes 1 direction?

Do you know for sure when betz will retired? I really want it done only from him if i do it.
How are you sending x rays to Paley & Assayag are you paying an extra fee for this?
I wonder if i get betzbone go home and worst case, you might to fly back to germany to fix the nail? how does it work with visa?
Did you go to germany alone? I plan to be solo and come back.
