Hi,

I'm currently lengthening my tibias with LON (+3cm), and I've had reduced sensation on my left leg at the upper part of the tibialis anterior and also at the top of the foot since day 1. It's slowly getting better but I was wondering why this happened and how long will it take to recover fully?

your replies are appreciated,

It's nerve issue. It will get better slowly.

Thanks for your reply, But I was hoping for a more detailed one! What is the reason for reduced sensation after surgery? and if the nerves are damaged why the result is manifested by loss of sensation, not by loss of function? How and how long does it take to heal? I'm looking for the science of it.

Thanks, JOKER

there can be a couple reasons for your numbness
it sounds like something has affected the nerve as the previous user mentioned
sincethe sensation has been present since your postop day 1
it could either be trauma to the nerve during the procedure
it could also just be inflamation, ie the swelling in the tissue has caused compression and irritation of the nerve
either way let your surgeon know and keep an eye on it

I will get better with time. I removed the internal rods a year and 4 months ago and I still have minor numbness. The numbness was bad last year and I was also experiencing nerve shooting pain going through my left tibia. It took many months for this to improve.
