LON Femur with Dr. Mustafa Uysal (Turkey) Feb-23-2022
« on: March 06, 2022, 02:53:18 PM »

Hi,

I've been a registered member of this forum since 2019 and I'm thinking of growing taller like everyone else and I've been researching LL for 8-9 years.

Height: 158
Wingspan: 160
Age: 42
Weight: 72 kg
Goal: 7-8 cm

I don't smoke.

First of all, my initial post is going to be a bit long. because lengthening surgery is not like nose surgery. It is a very difficult, serious and major plastic surgery that concerns the remaining life of the human being.

I live in Turkey. I met with many doctors in Istanbul face to face and I was examined.
As people research height increase for a long time, they have a lot of technical knowledge.

pain between femur and tibia, bone union time, femur-tibia ratio, lon, scar etc.

There are many doctors in Turkey about height increase. Some doctors I met in Istanbul were very funny.

For example, there were doctors who said that we can LL 8 cm even from the tibia, without taking any X-rays.

But what I know is that making 8 cm from the tibia is very risky for health.
They're talking without even knowing my femur-tibia ratio.

Unfortunately, as in most sectors, people's priority is money, they don't think about human health.
There are even those who write fake diaries to advertise doctors on this forum.

Because of this behavior of the doctors, I was afraid of the surgery and postponed it. Years passed with the dream of growing taller...

Then I met Gürkan in this forum. he has a lot of knowledge about height increase, he helped me a lot.
Gürkan has not had surgery yet. He later had surgery. Having operated on himself, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Uysal.

When I researched the doctor, I saw in his CV that he received training on height increase and orthopedics in various countries. They also worked with Paley in the United States in 2012.

I saw the videos on YouTube where he was a guest on television channels.

The first city that comes to mind when Turkey is mentioned, Istanbul, most foreigners do not know about other cities. For example, there are very big hospitals and doctors in Ankara and Izmir.

Also, everybody knows big city = more people, more patients and more money. But big cities have big problems. Crowd, traffic, transportation, air pollution etc.

Also, the cities that do the surgery are not the hospitals.
important doctors.

The city of Sakarya, where the doctor lives, is 1 hour away from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen airport by car. It is a city with a small population and plenty of natural greenery.

The reason I am telling all this is that if a doctor is not necessarily in a known city, the perception that that doctor is not a good doctor is like this all over the world. Not everyone may want the troubles of the big city just to make more money.

I went to see the doctor with Gürkan.

He didn't do it like other doctors, he said, let's take a leg x-ray first, then we'll talk.
The doctor examined my X-ray films and said that the canal diameter of the femoral bone was narrow. He said that there will be a problem with standard nails and  can make you a custom nail, but there is no problem.

I was afraid it wouldn't be done but good news :)

then he laid me on the sick table and examined my legs.
leg angles, miscellaneous, etc. movements.

I made an appointment for the day of surgery.
my surgery date: February 23, 2022
Everything is ready now...

I would like to thank my friend Gürkan  for making me have this surgery.

If you are considering having a lengthening surgery, do not hesitate to contact Gürkan.

February 22: We talked to Gürkan before and met. He came and picked me up in his own vehicle. We went to the hospital together.

We came to the city, we wandered around a bit. It is a place with many cafes, restaurants and shops around. right in the center of the hospital.

We had dinner together before going to the hospital, it tasted good :) then we drank coffee together in another place and chatted.

We went to the hospital, we did the hospitalization procedures, I gave blood. Then I went to my own room, and we put my things together with Gürkan. Gürkan helped me in all these processes.

The nurse came, the patient put on my wristband and the vascular access was opened.

After the night, food and water are no longer allowed.

I spent time with TV and then I fell asleep.
Tomorrow was the big day. there was excitement. I slept...

My surgical gown came in the morning, I changed my clothes. I'm ready now...

nurses came, we said goodbye to Gurkan...

The next ones are my surgery days, I hope it will be useful for everyone, thank you.

Thanks.

AFA I don't know.

It's not nice for someone who hasn't had this surgery to give advice or talk about the surgery.
Gürkan is already a well-known person in our country with this surgery, so it was not a problem.
 Everything is easier for me.

You can contact Gürkan for Dr. Uysal or for other LL questions.

I started writing the diary a little late.  I will add video and pictures.

Postoperative:
When I woke up the nurses were bringing me to my room.
I was wearing a duvet but it's so cold, it's like I'm at the North Pole. :)
My teeth were grinding against each other from the cold.

I didn't have much pain (2/10) sometimes 3-4.
 I was just cold.

I could wiggle my toes, but it's hard to lift them up. I could feel the weight of the fixator on my legs. My doctor came later.
He said that my surgery took a total of 4 hours.
I was surprised, LL surgeries usually took 6-8 hours. I asked the doctor why it was taking 4 hours.
Mounted the LON nail very easily, as the bone formation is good, so it was finished early.

The doctor told me to press the button on the pain pump device if you have a lot of pain.

The pain pump device constantly gives painkillers in small ml, but when I press the button, something like x10 happens, I guess. Anyway, it was night and I had pain but it was not unbearable so there was no need to press the button. Just the painkiller was making my head spin. I slept through the night without pressing any buttons.

Day 1:
Breakfast came and I woke up. I had my breakfast. My pain is still the same (2/10) sometimes my left leg hurt more.
The doctor came and asked about my condition. I said I was fine too. “Did you press the button?” he asked. I said no too.
Normally, I don't know if everyone presses the button or not :) but I didn't need it.

My doctor brought a walker. He wanted to see my condition. I got up from the bed with my hands for support. I was taking small steps with the walker. Glad to see you walking.

My doctor said that my walking and condition is very good compared to the first day after surgery.

My doctor said I can go to the bathroom with a walker now.

They gave me the following as serum and medicine:
parol pain reliever (serum)
antibiotic (serum)
Vitamin D drops (7-8 drops)
iron pill

It was night and I was sleepy. My pain was still the same (2/10) sometimes it was 3. I normally sleep on my side all the time. That's why it's very difficult for me to sleep on my back. fixator device was preventing movement to the right and left.

I already knew that this surgery was a difficult and long process. That's why I didn't bother.

never break your psyche. You have to endure some things in order to achieve your dreams.

I slept later.

Day 2:

I still don't have much pain.
My left leg is more painful than my right leg.
My left leg pain (2/10), right leg (1/10).
I use my right leg in my normal life.  I think my left leg is weak and hurts more because of this.

I went to the bathroom with a walker.  (Pee)
I haven't done my feces toilet yet.

The drugs given are the same as yesterday.
parol serum (paracetamol), antibiotic (serum), vitamin D drops, iron pill

My doctor came and left to inquire about my condition.
I watched some TV.  vs. vs.

 Day 3:
My pain is still the same.
 Left leg (2/10)
 right leg (1/10)

the left leg is stubborn :) there is not the slightest pain in the right leg, it only hurts when you do difficult movements.

The doctor made the classic patient visit, asked about my condition and left.

 Day 4:
My pain is the same.I have little to no pain.

The nurse said today, you are very active.
I said I don't understand.
She said, "There was no one who had this surgery but moved as much as you did in such a long time."
I don't know, this is my situation  8)

 Today is the big day.
Because,  i decided to feces on the toilet. But i was afraid :)

I went to the toilet, I was able to sit on the toilet by holding the iron bars on the sides.  very good.

I did my toilet, oh my god.  the color of the feces is black, like coal :o  it's disgusting :)

I asked my doctor about this situation, he said it was one of the iron pills given to me and it was normal.

I got rid of a big problem today :)

 Days 5-6:
It passed the same way as my other days.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Watching TV.
It's a little annoying to live the same things every day.

My doctor's daily visit.

Day 7:
Today is the same as any other day :)

Normally, I had to stay in the hospital for 10 days.
On the 10th day, I had to start the lengthening process and then be discharged.

I asked my doctor for permission to leave the hospital early because I did not have any pain and other problems. The doctor gave permission because there was no problem.

My doctor showed me how to do the lengthening process. Pretty simple process:

First of all, I unlock the lock screw on the right and left of the Fixator by loosening it with the allen key given to me.
Then I turn the side lengthening apparatus 90 degrees from right to left with the allen key.
Then lock screw.
The operation is complete.

This process makes an lengthening of 0.25mm.
This is done once every six hours. It happens 4 times a day in total.

I need to adjust it according to my sleep time at night.

e.g:
1. : if sleep is 00:00
2. : 06:00 in the morning
3. : 12:00 noon
4. : 18:00 pm

 4 x 0.25mm makes a total of 1mm.

I started lengthening at 00:00 at night.
I'm 0.25mm taller now :)

My LL journey has officially begun.

Day 8:

In the morning, my doctor came, said that I would first have a leg x-ray and then I could be discharged after I did the lengthening at noon.

I'll be back for a check up in a week.

To compare X-ray before and after 1 week lengthening.

It's beautiful, I'm happy. I'm not a person who likes hospital environments very much.

In my opinion, the most beautiful hospital of a person is his own home.

I packed my things and left the hospital.

The lengthening is done like this:

Medications given when leaving the hospital:

Vitamin D
Vitamin B1 + B6 + B12
Aspirin
Antibiotic
Antibiotic - Rifamycin (for wound dressing - liquid)
Tramadol 50mg (to be drunk if there is a lot of pain)

If the wounds become infected, antibiotic pills will be used.

Fixator nails will be dressed every 2-3 days. Dressing with Rifamycin will be done once a week.

Dressing is very important so that the fixator nails do not become inflamed, so I made dressings regularly.

I do the lengthening process 4 times a day. I have not experienced any pain or tension yet.

I regularly do stretching movements on my legs. (without pushing too hard)
My left leg is more flexible than my right leg.

My sleep pattern is mixed, sometimes I fall asleep right away, sometimes I can't. Not because of the pain, I'm not a supine person, but I'll have to get used to it. :)

I did the regular lengthening every day until my doctor appointment 1 week later. In this process, I did not use any painkillers and I did not have a problem.

A week later, I went to the doctor check-up.

My doctor examined my X-rays and said that everything is progressing normally.
In the first days, the lengthening was less. The compatibility of the fixator device and the harmony of the muscles, etc.

Here are my lengthening X-rays for a week before and after:

Before the surgery, my doctor said that the femur and tibia bone are equal to each other.  So I don't think the ratio will make much difference.

You can check out the simple proportion calculator I made:

Day 17:

Lengthened: 0,8 cm
(+/- may vary)

In this process, pay attention to your daily water consumption.  for plenty of water.

I was continuing the lengthening. without a break.
I have no pain in my right foot.
Although my left leg is flexible, I have occasional pain (pain 2/10).
A little stubborn about the pain in my left leg.
I could not sleep at night.  I took painkillers (paracetamol)

Interestingly, the pain in my left leg is below the knee (tibia) or so I think.
The pain comes and goes for seconds, it keeps repeating.  like a cramp.

During the lengthening period, the pain points may be different day by day.

Everyone knows that lengthening surgery is very difficult not to be painless at all.
Body, muscles etc.  he is tense, struggling and trying to adapt to the new situation.

All this is normal, everyone who had surgery experienced it..

Be patient for the happy ending and do not break your psychology. 8)

Note: I write days late sometimes.

Very good informative diary MrJames.

Regarding the lengthening procedure you show in the two videos:

1. Unlock screw
2. Rotate 90 degrees
3. Lock screw

As I see it in the videos you only show 'Unlock screw' and 'Rotate 90 degrees' but you don't show 'Lock screw'.

Yes you are right.  I made the video short because I will write text on the video.
Also, I didn't want to show it again because it's the same transaction.

I try to do as much as I can on my own.
Maybe I can record muscle stretching video.

Bob, are you considering surgery too?

Thanks.

Best of luck.

It has mentioned that patients should get in contact with Gurkan Cihan in former.

May I ask which company does Gurkan represent? If he doesn't represent any formal company it is pretty illegal to do such things as organizing and advising.

Also it seems like Dr. Uysal wants to be represented by afa since he share that company all the time in his instagram stories.

My friend Gürkan had surgery in Turkey in 2019 by Dr Uysal.
This operation became news in local TV and newspapers in Turkey.

Gürkan does not represent any company, since he also had this surgery, he helps those who want to get information from him with his experience and knowledge on lengthening surgery.
Thanks to him, we had this surgery.

Everyone knows that those who know this surgery best are the people who have had this surgery.

Companies where doctors work, etc.  Maybe it's their own choice.  I don't know about this.

First of all, you can read the diaries of people who have had surgery and talk to them.

After you decide to have the surgery, you can plan as you wish.

MrJames, Hope you are ok. I have two questions:

1. Your x-rays show you did antegrade (proximal) femur nailing. Did you and Dr. Uysal talked about what kind of deformity that could happen with antegrade nailing ?

2. Does Dr. Uysal do retrograde (distal) femur nailing ?

Thanks.

For the femur,

 1) Retrograde or antegrade is a condition determined by the patient's condition.  Bone structure, patient's age, etc.  there are many factors.

But as far as I know, it is difficult in terms of the Retrograde method and it can be a problem in terms of the knee.
You know, the most important thing is that you don't have any other problems after the surgery.

Also, you know, the longer the lengthening, the higher the health risks.  for example 8cm instead of 7cm.

 2) The doctor makes a retrograde, but this is not at the request of the patient.  Like I said, it varies from patient to patient.

You need to see a doctor to find out :)

Day 22:

Lengthened: 1,2 cm
(+/- may vary)

I'm continuing with the lengthening. (without a break)
 I do my workouts regularly.
After lengthening my right leg, there is tension, but it goes away with training.

I have not needed a physiotherapist until now, I do the process myself.  Of course, this is something that varies from person to person.

I do my dressings at intervals of 2 or 3 days.  No inflammation problems so far.
This is why dressing is important.

When I go to the doctor for a checkup, I will ask about it.

Day 27:

Lengthened: 1,7 cm
(+/- may vary)

  I continue without a break.

The pain in my left leg transferred to my right leg :)

In this surgery, anything can happen from day to day.
 So don't worry about them.

I did my dressing every 3 days today, there was a small bruise at the base of one nail on the right leg, but inflammation etc.  none.  I guess because of the coercion.

The fact that the weather is still cold is good for this situation, as the temperature rises, the possibility of inflammation may increase.

I'm eating a lot of spinach these days, I'm like Popeye :)

I'm trying to eat higher my daily calorie needs and more protein.

Painkillers are very variable from person to person.

I have used different painkillers for minor pains.
The most effective for me:

dexetoprofen + thiocolchicoside
(two in one medicine)

It's not a drug recommendation :)

I have a doctor's checkup on March 29, let's see what my real lengthening value is.

Day 30:

Lengthened: 2,0 cm
(+/- may vary)

Good or bad, a month has passed.
 It's like yesterday...

 Physiotheraphy:
In this process, I do not work with the physiotherapist.

My physical therapy, dressing, etc.  I do everything myself.

This is not my suggestion to you.

Maybe with my diary, it can be an example and support for people with similar conditions.

 Cleaning:
I guess everyone knows that bathing is forbidden until LON is removed.

I put soap and water in the plastic bowl and then clean my body with a cloth.  (except my upper leg)

Wet wipes can be used for a simple cleaning.

 Clothes:

 Convenience and advantage for LON:
 Side Snap Button Pants

(better 2 sizes bigger than your own size)

It is very advantageous in dressing.

Slip panties are more suitable as underwear.

Use the larger size for comfort.

 Scars:

Precice and Lon etc.  The scars between them are a different matter.

There are many people who want to have this surgery and worry about their scars.
These thoughts of women are more normal.

When will they see my scars?
My life is not at the beach (I wish :) )

At work, on the street, on the bus, in the car, on vacation, in a cafe, etc.  all the places and times you spend time with your dress...

Only the house and bedroom remain, the people you love already know about my situation.

Lie that these scars are from a fight or war :)

Maybe that can make you more masculine or feminine :)

If you're a man with hairy legs, it's okay :)

You can also get a tattoo if you are too obsessed with it.

With laser, scars can be made less obvious.

Which do you think is more important in society:

 Being a short person?
 Being a scarred person?

 The decision is yours...
