You're very fortunate to have your parents cook for you
Most people I met don't have that luxury, their parents either don't know about it or can't make it during the entire period of lengthening

im planning to do Paley 8cm femurs in the future so I have a few questions

what was your starting height?

do you walk as you did before or is it awkward?

do you expect to regain full flexibility etc?

were you flexible before? now are you like really stiff or just rather unflexible, like does it actually become noticeable in daily life or can you just not touch your toes or something.

Was never really flexible or stuff kinda average. You don’t notice it for the most part but sometimes I feel the tightness like when I bench I feel hip flexors stretching , also sitting crisscross is hard.

Hello again fishing! Strangely I was cleared to go straight to walking after just 4 months. I’m pretty ecstatic about being able to move around now, but did you learn any tips or tricks to get your gait back? My legs are pretty dang wobbly!

Hi Fishing,

I am planning to do LL at Paley too but I am still very early in the process. I feel like my communication with his assistant is not very helpful and i made a post specifically about this. I would really appreciate it if you could advise me on this situation?

This is the link to my post:

Thank you

Never mind this, they have sent me what I needed to know.

I have something else to ask you, how long was the time period between the consultation and the surgery?

Some questions here:
How do you feel about your new height?
Did you notice that people treated you differently?
How would you rate your % recovery now and how much do you expect to get in the future?

Did precise 2.2 very recently with Paley in Florida, ask me whatever

how did you deal with inflammation and pain during the distraction phase? Every day it's some new kind of pain or problem.

I feel amazing about my new height, that looming cloud of being short is all gone. I went from just under 5 6 to just under 5 9. Yes people absolutely treat you differently, especially women. I would rate my recovery at about 40% of my previous athleticism, and I think I would probably reach 60 - 70% if everything goes right. I also think I've had a really good recovery so at least in my opinion right now getting anywhere close to 100% is just completely out of question. It's up to you to decide if that's worth it to you.

I just delt with it, you can use heat packs, light painkillers, try to distract yourself. I also slowed down to 0.75 which literally changed the entire game, made things so much easier but it just takes some more time

Hi, I hope you are getting fine continuously!
Just wanted to ask if the doctor or you have discussed the hypothesis of lenghtening 0,5mm or 0,66m per day.
I ask because many do that with good results and one of my prospective doctors in principle does it usually (without being a fixed rule, of course).
Good luke and best wishes!

Hey man. Care to share how exactly people treat you differently? And how is the difference with women considering you went from 166 to 173

When did you start standing on a walker? Was it after the consolidation or before the consolidation?

At Paley's in general you can start standing on walker a couple weeks after surgery.

Hi Fishing. Well done with your LL and hope your speedy recovery. I assume you did 7cm femur?

What if the nail breaks? It can't handle much weight.

The PT team will teach you how to use it correctly by offloading some weights onto your arms. They actually ask you to practice this the day after surgery. I had this fear as well before surgery. It turned out less scary than it looks. Another patient during my time weighted 170lbs and he also did just fine.

They taught me as well but I am afraid to do it. I stand on a weighting scale sometimes.

I am curious to know if crutches can be used in this case and weight  can be offloaded to the arms ? I mean for short distances and such
in Paley's catalough it was mentioned that 2 crutches must be used so I understand that it is kind of allowed then,
what are your thoughts on this, have used crutches during lengthining ?

Crutches should be used after walker, not before. It's doable. I've met 1 patient doing this. He lengthened femurs only, 5.5cm. And 1-2 weeks after stop lengthening he's already on crutches. Judging by the look, he's young though, probably in the 20s.

I didn't dare to use crutches, though I'm already 1+mo in consolidation. I think I can, just being over careful. With walker you constantly push it against the ground = constantly offloading partial weight to arms. With crutches, my understanding, there's a brief moment you pick them up, hence more weight are put on your legs.

more respect, fewer antics to gain respect / relevancy. its not instant game, but most women dont discount you instantly for being short so if you're attractive and charismatic you get a chance

Thanks for sharing Fishing, happy for your great recovery!

In the hospital, can you access some equipment and do the exercise yourself, outside the 1-hour paid PT?
