Hi everyone,
I’m not very active here but I have been lurking for probably 4 years. I had a consultation with Dr. Mahboubian about 3 years ago and was told that I was a good candidate but the timing and finances didn’t work for me. I have recently been considering traveling to Turkey to undergo LON femur lengthening. I’ve searched the forums but was hoping for advice from any LON/CLL veterans.
My biggest concern with LON is ability to sleep. How much did medication aid with this. The pain and discomfort, and not being able to sleep on my side is probably going to make it harder on me, but I assume the sheer exhaustion will get me through that.
Along with cost, weight-bearing during and after lengthening is a significant factor in choosing LON. Does anyone (especially those who may have undergone different methods for tibia vs. femur) have opinions on this?
And on the point of cost, does anyone have any experience negotiating the cost of CLL, whether with American doctors or overseas.
Thanks in advance.
Did LON Femur, and in terms of sleeping, I woke up 2-3 times a day due to inconvenience, having to pee, and in the later stage additionally because I had to stretch in the middle of the night to get rid of tightness.
If you can't sleep on your back easily, it will be very
uncomfortable, but not painful.
People have different opinions on pain. Some have pain throughout the period, same LON method, but I think the normal response is having most pain during the first 3 weeks, and last 3 weeks. In between it's possible to be off medicine completely while resting with a pain level of close to zero.
The price is usually fixed. Most doctors in Turkey charge around 15-20k (all included, except for rod removal), and apparently some even less than 10k, but I don't know about that...
I think LON in general is a little gamble with a 90% success rate. Both of my legs went through different issues and pains and recovery stages, as if it was done by two different people.
