Height shrinks after LL?
« on: January 30, 2022, 07:27:24 AM »

The way I heard about it, it can only happen if lengthening with external fixators like your height will shrink 0.5cm-1cm after LL.
Cannot figure out how come it can happen but I am anxious about every millimeter I can gain after LL and never want my height to shrink as hell.
Anyone can show papers about on average how much height shrinks after LL with fixators?

You will shrink as you age though.

I know, but that's essentially different. Like if you lengthen you tibias by 5cm with loads of money, but at least bc your height shrinks due to the method, you don't cost equivalently to how much you should've cost the outcome is actually worthy of and yeah like you said but you will shrink more if your height shrinks due to the method in addition to shrinking as aging.

I’ve heard some people report their height shrinking by a couple milimeters after LATN, but I’ve never heard of that much happening after external fixation.

I think people shrink in height because of cartilage wears out. It leads to loss of motion and height, probably. However I heard something called "人工關節" made of hard ingredients can replace the worn out ones and stay like that forever so patients don't need to worry again.

I did external Tibias (LATN). The ‘shrinkage’ you’re referring to happens when external fixator is removed - there is a ‘recoil’ factor during the surgery when fixator comes off but the internal nail isn’t yet inserted. A temporary external fixator is used to preserve the new length while the IM nail is being inserted.
There is a chance you might lose a mm or so, but if your doctor is paying attention, it should be negligible.

I think what you're talking about is pin bending, and you've misinterpreted what you heard.

The pins that impale your legs will bend due to the tension from lengthening.  So you can turn the knobs 5 cm worth of times but only lengthen your legs 4 cm, for example, because the pins bent 1 cm.  This is why only x-rays will tell you how much you've actually lengthened.

Thx a lot! Do you know the possibilities and how to avoid it?

Approximately how  much height will shrink if we lengthen 6cm. There is any way to prevent them
