those who had precise 2, how was the pain ?
« on: January 28, 2022, 01:09:25 AM »

From starting to finishing, how was it overall?
Keep hearing different responses but average seems to be not as bad as what it seems.

I'm not done lengthening but some days are good and some days are bad. If you're unlucky, you might have an entire day where you're at 6/10 or 7/10 pain throughout. That's rough and takes a toll.

You get used to the pain to some extent, but a level of discomfort remains. I've rarely been at 0/10 pain since the surgery but I'm often at 1/10 or 2/10 in terms of background pain. I also have sharp pains from time to time, up to 8/10 or 9/10 but that'd be for less than a second, when doing a specific move or something. That acute pain doesn't have as big an impact on your quality of life as the "chronic" pain.

More than the pain level itself, you have to deal with different types of pain. Surgical pain, nerve pain, muscle pain. They're different and managed differently. What's unsettling at first is that there is a randomness to the pain. One day your left knee will hurt, the next day it'll be your right foot.

Pre-op preparation is key, not only because (I believe) being in good shape helps, but also because you need to be ready to survive as a disabled person day 1. There are many little things such as urinals or shower chairs that make your life easier. Because every little action or move you do takes 5 times the energy as it normally would, living efficiently reduces your overall suffering.

How often did you have to take painkillers?

Your story is interesting. You did 5.3cm first and then did 8cm. Weren't you worried about fixing the 27mm discrepancy you were creating considering how much pain you were in throughout the whole ordeal?

Also I am curious why you chose to do them separately. Was it for mobility reasons?

How do you manage that discrepancy? You need adapted shoes and a crutch, no? Are you sure you don't want to correct it? Your suffering must have been hell...
(Sorry if I'm confusing everything)

LLD's below 2 cm are generally tolerated ok, but yes 2.7 cm is a push, i have a built up shoe and often only wear one shoe on the RHS at home to event things up.
I cant really run or dance bball very well with my built up shoe on , i find i "roll" my ankle if i push it too hard.
it has been years now and at 55 y.o i don't have many active years left in me, so I am keen to resolve the LLD and get on with life....

Femur lengthening was more painful for me. I was on oxy for 3 weeks and tylenol for 1 week. Looking back it’s not that bad. Tibia lengthening was almost painless and I slept well everyday except the first week after the surgery. It’s painful to stretch calf muscles though.

Just incision pain and swelling after surgery. I iced my legs almost 24 hours for 4 days to calm the incision pain since pain meds don’t work well on incision pain.

How was your pain comparing precise 2 and Stryde? Any difference?

I did femurs with stryde and tibias with precice 2 so I can’t really compare them. In general tibia is less painful. PT and nurse told me many people found tibias less painful when I was in hospital.
