gnail vs precice 2
« on: January 15, 2022, 01:08:49 AM »

Whats are the pros and cons of these two? I would go with Giotikas if gnail. Can u go back with gnail as u can with precice? When do u start walking a bit with gnail? how do u walk right after the lengthening phase is over?

Precice 2:
+ Can be reversed, very helpful for complications like non-unions or delayed unions
+ Easy and precise lengthening
- Partial weight bearing, largest nail supports 70 pounds

Gnail:
+ Full weight bearing
+ Price is a little cheaper than Precice 2
- Cannot be reversed, horrible for non-unions
- Accidental clicks can make non-unions even a greater threat
- Difficult and uncomfortable to click to lengthen

What’s your goal and which segments do you want to lengthen? If you have a big goal like 8 cm on femurs or 6+ cm on tibias then gnail is probably a better option. Weight bearing is super helpful for better and easier stretches which can help you reach big goals.

Gnail, easy. The weight bearing is super important for bone growth, rehabilitation, and reducing atrophy.

that's not true. Precice 2 heals faster than stryde and gnail. Titanium is better for bone growth.

Like all things in the real world, there is a trade off. Gnail is full weight bearing, so it’s easier to get around in the lengthening and early consolidation phases. On the other hand, the Precice is partial weight bearing, so more load is placed on the patient’s bones which stimulates better bone regenerate.

I had a lot of pain with G nail clicks. I also thing choosing it instead of Precise was the best choice I had in my life. I can't imagine the journey with no weight bearing.

I can't imagine doing bilateral precice as well to be honest .
The thing with G nail and betzbone it's not just the clicking for me ,but also the surgeons who performs with those nails .
None of them is a  caring doctor n they would allow u (or in certain cases ,encourage you) to lengthen to ur desire n max out the nails as well which is a receipe for never going back to an acceptable level of performance .
Staged lenghetning seems to be the most efficient way nowadays for CLL patients comfort wise but the price goes up compared to bilateral because the fees doubles since u have to use the hospital twice , have twice the consults /meds/PT/rent etc. Also ,u will never be bed ridden but thr amount of time on crutches its basicly one year which is impossible to hide .
Other then that , 1 year it's a long period of time to be "crippled" , we don't think so now but a year it's long and it might turn very frustrating towards the end .
Wish we will have a safe Nitinail / stryde 2 in 2023 because I really want to move forward with it but rn it has just too many compromises ; we already sacrifice a lot n having to be bed ridden with the risk of nail bendings /breakages or dealing with crazy pain with clicking with not so ethical doctors..makes it not convenient .
