Has anyone done Dr. Paley's Option 5?
« on: December 01, 2021, 10:17:23 PM »

https://paleyinstitute.org/centers-of-excellence/stature-lengthening/costs-financial-considerations/#/

"5. Combined tibia (4 cm) and femur (4 cm) lengthening three weeks apart, followed by rebreaking of femur and tibia with the same PRECICE in place one year later with a second lengthening of 4 cm in each bone (up to 16 cm in height; cost $280,000 USD, PRECICE-Stryde)"

Option 5 involves having two lengthening phases. Phase 1 you do 4 cm per segment, 8 cm total. You then come back one year later, rebreak your femur and tibia, and repeat another lengthening amount of 4 cm, 8 cm total for phase 2.

The cumulative total of phase 1 and 2 is 16 cm.

I want to hear everyone's thoughts on this and if anyone has gone with it. I think this is what I desire at the moment. Right now my stats are 165cm at 17. If I get this, I will be 181cm, or 5'11.5, which I am totally content with, and with lifts I become 6'0-6'1, which is even better. I hope to grow more but I am doubtful, but at that point its just extra height to go with more limb lengthening.

I have not done this but I’ll give my thoughts.

1.Holy  , if you can tolerate 2 sets of quadrilateral lengthening you are a machine lol that’s intense!
2. This height increase for you would be life changing, I genuinely hope you can achieve this and please write about it!
3. I normally strongly discourage people from worrying about proportions unless they are getting more than 8cm on one segment or 12cm total. I think at that point it is okay to start to take proportions into consideration. I’d recommend you ask for a mock-up.
4. Be very careful, this is a fk ton of money and if you commit to this Paley doesn’t refund. What I could see happening is you get the first 8cm, realize you are happy, and that it’s not worth the misery of putting yourself through second lengthening. That’s at least $140000 down the drain.
5. After one year you won’t be fully recovered, you will likely have some mild residual weakness and or an imperfect gait, this may make the second lengthening even harder.
6. As far as I know this will be uncharted waters, there’s not many resources on here specific to this surgery if any, that might make it more scary/difficult.

But I hope if you do decide to do this you get the length you desire and recover fully!

Appreciate the love hombre. I believe MyEvolution has done something similar to this actually.

Indeed it would be lifechanging. At 5'11 I would not only be above average but totally capable of bagging a majority of girls with height not being a detriment at that point. .Sure taller my height would be something girls would like me for but its just not worth it. Maybe if I somehow grow to 5'6'5'7 I would still do the 16cm to get to 6'1 but im doubtful

Yes, I wonder if I can just get the 8cm and not pay for the other half until I decide enough is enough. I hope Dr. Paley doesnt see through that haha I dont want my money down the drain, and I'd like to experience how painful lengthening is!

Option 5 does minimize the risk of complications and can almost guarantee 16 cm. If your muscles are tighter than average, option 5 can be a really good option. I would schedule 2 surgeries at least 1 - 1.5 months apart from each other instead of 3 weeks suggested by paley to make things easier. .

If you are very flexible, it’s possible you can reach 11-12 cm during phase 1. I saw one person reach 11 cm and one person reach 12. These two people probably won’t rebreak though. However when you are flexible, you can probably reach 13-14 cm by doing tibias and femurs separately, which is only 2-3 cm less than option 5.

In my case I just did femurs first to see if I would be happy with my new height, recovery, etc.. which is also what most people do. Since I was a lot more flexible than average people before the surgery, I walked completely normal (perfect gait) just two months after lengthening. I was pretty happy with the recovery, and the lengthening experience wasn’t very bad, then I came back and did my tibias this year.

Unfortunately I am not very flexible, I cannot even touch my toes which I am working on. I am only 17 so I have lots of years ahead of me to work on my flexibility and correct my tight hamstrings. Is flexibility mostly genetic?

For me it’s genetic and I’m always very flexible, but you can improve it for sure.

@SuchLL Did you do Precice2 for your femur for 8cm? What was your starting height? Which Doctor did you go to?

I did 8 cm femurs using stryde last year, and I’m doing tibias using precice 2 now. Hope I can reach 6 cm. Both surgeries were with Paley’s institute. My starting height was 164 cm. Here’s all the details if you’re interested: http://www.limblengtheningforum.com/index.php?topic=67400.0

My humble opinion is you don't do it.
First of all if you don't if your epifhysial plates are closed you may still grow a bit that will make all the difference. You can even check if you can still have Growth Hormone injections (likely not effective in your age, tough).
Option 5 is surely the more risky, unknown, procedure,  you lose not only that money,  specially if you are not able to do phase 2 but lose also precious time that you can spend on investing in other important issues for yourself and that also count to attract women: personal education and career choosing, interperspnal and couple comunication skills,  style, languages, travelling and aquiring experience, counselling or coaching, etc.
Furthermore,  most searched after men's height in dating websites in the UK is  173cm (5,8" - this is not an average,  it's the height that is searched more often) and average men height there is around 176cm (yes, it may seem strange but it's from credible sources).
Just...don't do it man!
Or at least wait until cool down your head, maybe at least until being 20 and check you really don't have height neurosis and that you maybe have the opinion there are better options or even there's no need for LL (who knows, you may have for example a girlfriend that gives you the confidence boost you need or want!).
Save your health,  physical performance, time and precious money!
Option 5 is just not "safety first".

Thanks for the response, I'd say this is the most sound argument against LL for now. But we cannot predict mental health haha. I hope I can save money by either growing or not caring about height anymore but we will have to see. I'm building my career and I'd have to finances to do this comfortably in the future, I wont disclose what it is but I would love to lengthen to 5'11-6'0.

Option 5 is surely the more risky, unknown, procedure,  you lose not only that money,  specially if you are not able to do phase 2

If you talk about the risks from the surgeries, then option 5 is the worst because it needs 3 surgeries (1 femur + 1 tibia + 1 rebreak). However option 5 is the safest way to gain maximum length with internal nails, and you won’t need IT band release because you just lengthen femurs by 4 cm. It’s not an unknown procedure. You schedule both surgeries at least 3 weeks apart from each other and you lengthen both segments for period of time. Your upper legs may not even feel tight after you’re done with 4 cm femurs (most people start to feel very tight after 5 cm). So this is the safest option for people who are tight or who want to get maximum length. And about money, you don’t need to pay for phase 2 in advance. You only need to pay for it after you decide you want phase 2 and you schedule your phase 2 surgery. I agree CrispinGloverFan12 is too young and it’s best to wait. The youngest patient I saw was 19 and it already surprised me…

I don't understand tho why he is 165 and wants to reach 181 .
This greed it's what drives me crazy .
This means he only sticks to what others says and not to what he feels !
Maybe with 8 cm femur he will be good to go , a solid 5'8 and maybe he will feel great and move on .
He want to jump from short to tall without not even knowing what there is in between .
I think you would be way better off with 5'8 ,1 (well 2) surgery ,90k ,maybe you add a 1 inch insole ,get to 5'9 from a starting 5'5 ,work on yourself and move on .
And if you still feel short you can always do 5 cm tibia later and rebreak it and do whatever u want with ur legs.
You are also 17 and by no means fully grown ( mentally speaking, not as an offense) therefore I suggest you to leave this forum for couple years and come back when you have more awerness about yourself and your height and then plan on what to do .
Also when I was younger I used to think that money was not going to be a problem therefore 80/90 k where a lot but not a lot for a dream so I was just going hands down with the best , no problems with rents and so on because my safety had no price .
Well..as years passed I am worried if I will make it on time (for my timeline) and look around for the best way to save with a great surgeon because this s*** is expensive and others don't own us this amount of money .
So take your time and release som stress out of you because you are only 17 .

You haven't mentioned two important parts:
- wingspan, max deviation from height is like 3 inches before it looks weird
- are you already financial independent? People who pay for Paley and then still have to attend a job are stupid. You can 5-10x that money with very low risk in the crypto market, if you know a few basics.
