I appreciate your diary but this is marketing for Assayag.
He is a good doctor but having his few diares on top if the search bar or on YouTube does not add skills to him ,just more clients and this is no different from what dr.M do.
No one is stupid here n I am not the only one noticing this ; who wants to follow you has the YouTube channel so I don't feel like this is needed especially because there are no feedbacks or discussions going on in the topic.
This is sad because I had this surgeon in the back of my mind but he wants to earn clients very heavily and his website, his presence here n his diares are just too much according to me .
Just my pov !

Just to make it clear, I am not marketing for Dr Assayag. I am not getting paid, nor am I receiving any benefits, commissions, or discounts. If you decide not to go to Dr Assayag because you think I am marketing for him, it really doesn't matter to me because I am not getting paid in any form.

This is my diary of my leg lengthening surgery journey and everything I learned from my first hand experiences and research, and I am linking to it on this forum because this is a limb lengthening forum so it can help forum members, LL patients, and those considering or researching LL surgery. There are very few resources out there and very few LL patients who want to share their first hand knowledge and experiences, so I am doing my part to contribute and educate on this large and complex field of limb lengthening surgery.

Yes, I primarily mention Dr Assayag, but that is how leg lengthening surgery goes. A LL patient (and there are very few around but growing) will only see one doctor in his/her lifetime (maybe two in extremely rare cases). It's not like I'm reviewing restaurants where I can go to as many different restaurants as I wish. If I went with Dr Paley instead, you could mistakenly say that I am marketing for Dr Paley because I don't review other doctors as much.

Hi! Wondering how long you had to stay at the facility after surgery? How soon could I go on a plane ride back home and do PT in my home state.

Hi! Wondering how long you had to stay at the facility after surgery? How soon could I go on a plane ride back home and do PT in my home state.

I stayed at the hospital for 3 days after surgery. Then I lengthened at a nearby housing for almost 3 months, then stayed another 4 weeks into consolidation before driving home.

Unfortunately, the Precice 2 nails are partial weight bearing (70 pounds limit for the largest size), so before you go on a plane, you will need to be able to walk independently. Maybe (though unlikely) with crutches, but you'll have to figure out how to transport your luggage on crutches. So with the Precice 2, you will have to stay nearby during the distraction phase, plus another 2 to 3 more months in the consolidation phase, before you are able to walk independently and get on a plane.

Hi,
Has Dr. Assayag advised or prescribed you any supplements, or calcium at least (I suppose)?
And what about diet? Has he told you to raise your normal caloric intake?

Hi,

And what about diet? Has he told you to raise your normal caloric intake?

Since surgery I've been taking 5000 IU Vitamin D and 1500 mg Calcium in supplements. I've recently reduced those doses to 2000 IU Vitamin D and 750 mg Calcium in supplements last February (about 10.5 months after surgery) since I am almost done consolidation.

Diet, just eat well balanced meals higher in protein and less in fat, and reduce sugar. Lengthening takes more calories because metabolism goes up, but a few weeks after I finished lengthening my metabolism went back to normal.

Hey HeightJourney2021,

Thanks for posting informative videos and documenting your CLL journey. Your contribution to the community has been extremely valuable!

I just wanted to understand your take on weight bearing with precise 2.2 nails -

Do you think shedding max. weight before CLL Femurs will help?

How many days after op did you start using the walker to move around?

Do you think weight bearing helps in faster recovery (again, for precise 2.2 femurs)? shall we try to max. walker time during lengthening? OR wait till consolidation phase..

Transfer from bed to toilet/ shower is more comfortable using walker OR with wheelchair and transfer board?

Do you think shedding max. weight before CLL Femurs will help?

Yes. The maximum weight limit for the Precice 2 nails is 50 pounds for the medium and 70-75 pounds for the large, which is quite low.

How many days after op did you start using the walker to move around?

I learned how to use the walker 2 days post op, and started using it regularly 3 days post op. It's only for short distances, inside my room. For longer distances, wheelchair is necessary. Also, some Precice patients take longer to learn how to use a walker, even over a week after post op.

Do you think weight bearing helps in faster recovery (again, for precise 2.2 femurs)? shall we try to max. walker time during lengthening? OR wait till consolidation phase..

You'll be doing wheelchair/walker during lengthening and early consolidation. Just keep up with your PT exercises, eat well, and take your supplements to consolidate sooner.

Transfer from bed to toilet/ shower is more comfortable using walker OR with wheelchair and transfer board?

It depends on the patient. Most Precice patients I know use the walker because it is more maneuverable inside the bathroom. But some patients, especially female patients, prefer the wheelchair. About the transfer board, I don't know of any wheelchair patients who use it for the bathroom. I've only seen small female patients use it to transfer from car to wheelchair (or vice versa), but no male patients use it.

Hey HJ,

Thanks for answering my questions!

You are a true warrior, planning for another CLL in Tibias. I wanted to understand what caused your ETT ?? How can it be avoided ?

I was born with ETT on my right tibia. I've known about it since childhood, though I didn't know it was eligible for a medically necessary surgery until I met Dr Assayag.

Why are you lengthening more? And why to treat the outward pointing feet if it has never given you any problem?

I stopped at 7 cm as well.  Essentially, I was so tight that my doctor said I had to take a 2 week break to let soft tissues have a break.   I said, you know what...7 cm is good for me, I am done.  I am so happy I stopped right there.  Continuing would have been insanity on my muscles and soft tissues, and also the proportion thing.  My advice to LL'ers is just because it "goes" to 8 cm, doesn't mean you can or should.  Thanks for your videos HJ, I see them on Cyborg4Life as well.  Keep up the great work.

Watch my video at 3:25 which explains why I am not lengthening more.

About my outward pointing feet, you shouldn't be quick to judge someone else's conditions when you don't have any knowledge of their situation or the condition itself. External tibial torsion causes a lifelong list of problems. When an ETT patient tries to run or jump, it is a major hindrance that will limit you from many physically demanding jobs. I have trouble running one mile under 9 minutes because of this. This excludes me from many careers that have a physical fitness requirement like running, such as the military, law enforcement, athletics and related jobs. Not to mention it's a morale buster and damaging to your emotional health when you consistently finish in the bottom 20 percent of any kind of group running events.

After all, why are you on this forum? Being short is not a physical health hazard and it doesn't produce a physical medical problem. So does that mean you should not be allowed to get cosmetic leg lengthening surgery because it is not a physical health hazard?

Well said. Safety should be first and maxing the length should be second. However, a significant number of people have a "I need to get my money's worth" mentality, so it ends up being the other way around.

You are 5'9 now or a hair shorter. I have seen your video about how you feel with the height especially compared to people 6' and above and saw how happy you were and satisfied you were. I think that rebreaking the legs for 3.5cm (which still is a considerable gain in my opinion) after already being average height is something that should be taken with extreme caution. About the outward pointing feet, usually surgeons don't operate unless it is giving you life affecting symptoms since everything is about the risk/benefit ratio in surgery.
If I were you, I would wait till I no longer need physio from the first surgery, really get out there to enjoy the new height (socially and romantically) and afterwards when LL is no longer a big part of your life (which it is as of this moment) decide with clear vision if you want to go with it or no.
And yes, I want to do LL because I want to be average height as this is the only thing I am not happy about in my life (already have a GF, a nice job and good social circle)

Anyway, take care
