Question for those doing LL on their own
« on: October 20, 2021, 05:10:50 AM »

Hi there. For those people looking to do LL on their own without a companion, how would you get by? Would you hire a caretaker or just ask a friend to tag along for the first couple of weeks? Or at worst, pay your friend an amount to take care of you should they be unable to cover for the expenses during the months of helping you?

I did it on my own back in Jan 2012 with Betz. No need to hire a caretaker at al. The first two week I was at the hospital and could walk with crutches 1 day after surgery. After that I went to the Parkhotel, where most Betz patiients were at that time. Attached to the hotel is a wellness facility (Vitalis), so I'd just walk some meters to have my physiotherapy sessions. For X-rays and stuff I'd pay Thomas (Betz driver) to take me to the hospital. Betz would visit us in the hotel very often, on weekly basis.

How is the Vitalis hotel? Is the equipment provided nearly new???

Honestly, I'd suggest a caretaker or a friend for the first 2-3 weeks. You could get by without one, but I've read it's quite miserable the first few weeks. In addition, I've heard some patients do better if a friend, family member, or companion is there so they can focus on rehab and keep their moral up. YMMV though

The hotel is called Park Hotel and the Vitalis is the sports and rehabilitation center attached to it.
Both were great back in 2012.

It looks very wonderful, but the rate is quite higher than the average. Kind of expensive for a few nights stay.

Back in 2012 they had a special deal for Betz patients. Not sure about now.
But keep in mind that for a quality German spa-hotel is not expensive.
