During the rehab, what recreation were we allow to participate?
« on: October 11, 2021, 03:47:01 AM »

After the limb lenghening surgery, we must stay in hospital for months before our legs were able to walk normally. During months of rehab, were there certain activities you were asked not to do to assure that your legs healed without a problem?

Were you allowed to play video games or exercises that only involved with your arms?

Would you like to share your stories? Thanks.

Hello,  I haven't done LL yet but found your question important and as i am trying to start preparing everything and haven't chosen where to do it yet, and therefore will also ask what they have there in detail, I am planing, besides whatever "help" they have already.
1) smartfone with big screen (maybe Samsung folder if I can afford) to play  read, watch videos, etc  without a very cumbersome device that I can take anywhere in a small shorts pocket during the day. Or/and a
2)good tablet with lots of videos/films/music already downloaded/Voip over Internet telephone, in case the Wifi there is or is not bad.
3)laptop or hybrid laptop. I intend to install 2 players games like chess (there are may others) in the "biggest" screens and hopefully find a mate to play with. Also Netflix...
4)If there is (if there isn't is a very bad sign),  a common convivial room ask if tv is cabble/satellite and has dvd player.
5) hopefully will have at least a  small not covered open air fresh area to take a small walk with crutches or some other support (it's not only about getting fresh air, vitamin D produced by the skin under the sun is of very high quality to help absorb calcium).
6)Mayve a Nintendo DS (it's not the best, I know, but I can keep cognitive ativity with Dr Kawashima games (as in th phone, but could had variety and different interface for better hand/mind cooordibation)
7) Rubik cube to keep hand/mind coirdination and finger/hands normal small gestures force.
8) Kindle blak and white?
9) 2 or 3 paperbooks?
9) sign for a digital or paper subscription of a magazine to be delivered in the clinic.
10) withou "stupidity" make friendly  medical authorised (!) "contests" with   LL fellows like: I have just done 10 push ups, can you do 11? (Explore healthy and friendly motivation abd companionship)
11) cards? (I don't like but...)
12) Make and publish diary always "constructive", avoid participation in the forum during that time. Maybe answer real constructive members of the forum but avoiding excessive activity/time on that and avoid completely if people start being nasty or ignorantly critiques. Otherwise may help avoid isolation and promote mutual help.
13( Etc ) ( open list) Ask what THEY have. May even be a good sign of concern for patients and professionalism.....

It's best to bring along a big screen tablet while you are in rehab process, I think.
