Early days yet but looking for some advice to get started
« on: September 20, 2021, 08:36:53 AM »

Hey I am 32 Male and 158 cm with a wingspan of 163 cm from Australia and really considering getting this done after I get myself in shape a bit more..  I am not over weight I don't drink or use drugs but I do smoke cigarettes 20+ a day but plan to quit by the end of October at the latest..

I have the money already as I made a bit of money as a early BTC investor so most options are available to me but I still want to budget it out as much as possible. If i could quit smoking and really work on my personal health and fitness for the next 6 months I would like to aim to possibly do the surgery in march or April 2022.

I have done a fair bit of reading here originally I was keen to go to turkey to get this done but seems dangerous to gamble on that option now and possibly risk serious complications with lesser known surgeons.

Greece looks like a good option and Giotikas seems to be a trusted option among this community. I like the idea of Greece as I have never been and it seems accommodation would be affordable and comfortable.

Ideally I would love to gain 15 cm in total but would be willing to do less.. I have not the best posture and could probably gain a inch or 2 with a chiropractor, hanging exercises and maybe some yoga or something but 15 cm is my goal so if I could obtain this with surgery and then add to my height on top of that by correcting my posture that would be a bonus. If not a combination of surgery and correcting my posture to achieve the ultimate goal of 15 cm would make me very happy and put me in what I consider the normal range of height that I pretty much could never dream of without surgery..

I have got to the point in life where I am just tired of the smug looks and disrespect I get for no reason.. I could deal with my height if it wasn't for that but I just can't anymore.

my ultimate goal would be to complete the surgery within 12 months time frame so I am thinking of opting for the Four segment cross-leg lengthening (femurs and tibias in two stages within 6 months) lengthening: 54000 Euro I saw is offered by Giotikas  on another thread on this forum.

A few questions.

* Is my 15 cm goal just with the surgery and without any extra height obtained from posture correction realistic with the procedure I am looking at?

*If I began the procedure in march 2022 in what month/year estimated would I be finished the procedure. And when I say finished I mean pins out and walking unassisted is 12 months realistic for all of this?

I might have more questions afterwards but for now these are my main queries I just want to get it done as quickly as possible and hit as close to my height goal as possible and try to start my new life as a new man hopefully before my 34th birthday in march 2023*.. I know I probably won't be fully recovered by march 2023* but if I can walk unassisted and take it slow I would be happy with that I don't have any athletic goals other then some weight lifting but nothing crazy I am not trying to be a bodybuilder or anything just general fitness, I don't plan to run a marathon, I work from home (Crypto trader) so no physical requirements for my job so as long as I can walk without a frame I would be very happy to just cruse along and take it easy until full recovery is hopefully reached or as close to full recovery as possible.

I would be willing to stay in Greece for up to 12 months if needed be and visa requirements allow for it (Haven't looked into visas etc yet) Also you probably don't have a clue about this question but if Giotikas accepted Bitcoin that would be great as the less I give to the tax man the better.. I don't expect anybody to have an answer for that one though but thought I would throw it out there anyways.

Look forward to your responses if any :)

Cheers.

**Edit** I fked up the dates and wrote march 2022 instead of March 2023 for possible recovery time (Fixed now)

Hi, welcome to the forum. This is the right place for your questions. I think everyone is different, some has potential to go for 15 cm via LL while some could only 12cm. Is LL popular in Australia now? I have been to your country and I think the medical field in Australia was very good. My best bet would be you try to do yoga so you gain 3cm and do the LL to gain another 12cm, making your height reach 173.

I think at 158cm, you are the ideal candidate for quad lengthening.

1) You don't need to get "in shape", as gaining more muscle is counterproductive for LL. You do however need to stretch your hip flexors, quads, hamstrings and IT bands (TFF) as much as possible in the next 6 months.

2) You must quit smoking. Smoking significantly affects your bone and soft tissue recovery times. Doctors will advise you of this too.

3) 15cm is very realistic. This would likely be 8/9cm on femurs and 6/7cm on tibias. The max you're likely going to be able to achieve is 17cm (10cm femur / 7cm tibia).

4) Giotikas is a great doctor but I doubt he accepts BTC. You can just open a wallet on a new non-tax platform, transfer your BTC there, and sell. Shouldn't have to pay any tax.

Question, why muscles is counterproductive? Don't you need more masses of muscles when bones elongated?

A broken bone is easy to pull apart.  A muscle is not.

Thanks for the warm welcome :) I honestly don't know much about the procedure in Australia no doubt it is probably done here but probably more expensive also rent is extremely expensive here and I live in a rural area and would most probably have to travel to the city and stay there.

I guess I like the idea of doing this in another country because it's almost like an adventure or a spiritual journey to be the person I want to be and deserve to be. I want to leave Australia as my current version and return as my new and improved self and not a day before it's achieved,. I don't just plan to get the surgery done while I am there I also plan to get during recovery both sleeves and my back tattooed, A new tailored wardrobe once my measurements are known (so after lengthening in completed) and hopefully a tan :D I have always been quiet pasty so that would be nice. I checked Airbnb and I can rent a 1 bedroom apartment in Athens for about 15k AUD for 12 months. In Australia it would be 2-3x that cost and I wouldn't get to experience a brand new culture so I think Greece is a good choice.

I do agree on the 12 cm i just got some dumbbells 2x 2.5kg ones and stacked them on top of each other and they come to exactly 12 cm and I stood in front of the mirror on them and the height difference is really quiet remarkable even if I didn't gain an extra cm with yoga I think an extra 12 cm would go a long way to making me feel so much more comfortable in my own skin I know it's not the tallest but it is what it is and it's a vast improvement from my current situation! the average height of an Australian male is 175cm with an extra 12 cm even without yoga adding any extra I would be flat foot 170cm.. maybe add some nice shoes with a bit of heel and some lift innersoles with an inch or so and I would feel pretty regular walking around with the locals here in Australia.

Honestly I do see a lot of people around who are only slightly taller then me with an extra 12 cm even in sandals/thongs i would probably be taller then them or equal height.. I honestly think the statistics are exaggerated and a lot of people are not honest about their heights because I see a lot of people around who are shorter then 175 cm not as small as me lol but not 175cm either.. almost everywhere I go I am the shortest in the room even most girls are slightly taller then me or eye level without heels and with heels looking down at me with 12 cm that would all change drastically :) and that is all i want!

That said I do hope I can add some extra CM with Yoga but after gaining 12 cm and reaching 170cm everything else is just a bonus and honestly a gift from God  8)

Thanks for taking the time to reply  :)

I know a lot of people paint the idea of Quad lengthening in a scary light but for me I like the idea! I am 32 now and by the time I have the surgery I am going to be 33 I am already pushing it late in life but if I get it done as close to my 33rd birthday and recover around my 34th then 34 years old and a brand new person gives me the rest of my 30s which is 6 years as a average regular man and that is the reason I just want to get it done yeah it's going to be 12 or so months where I can't do much but pray for it to all be over soon but right now I am really not living.. Like I have money and I can't even enjoy it because going out and socializing is just so painful.. not playing the violin here just stating the facts all my life I have been really judged by so many people for my height I don't think it's fair but it is what it is and humans are what they are, and that is very superficial and judgmental creatures for the most part. THe last few years I have rarely left the house and I am just watching my life slip away right in front of me.

Even when I went to Asia I couldn't escape the judgmental looks and comments from the locals..while I was in the Philippines I was constantly hit with comments "Why are you so short for a foreigner?" "Foreigners are usually so tall why you so small" It really starts to weigh heavy after awhile I have pretty much forgotten how to laugh. cry. smile or feel any emotions what so ever. It's a defensive mechanism I have had to develop to protect myself from probably losing it and jumping off a bridge and I am well aware after this surgery I am probably going to need therapy to recover mentally after I recover physically from the operation.. But you only live once and fk it I am going to live even if it's a bit late to start It's never to late to try!

I don't plan to gain too much muscle leading up to the operation just tone myself up in the upper body as much as I can to make it easier to bounce back once I am in recovery mode and can hit the gym again. I have a rowing machine and try to use it an hour a day I do dumbells few times a week and recently bought a chin up bar and plan to use that daily. I left school at 14 and started as a butcher at 15 and worked in that industry for about 14 years before I got into crypto currency exclusively so I have always been pretty lean and wiry physically but I believe the early starts and long days and smoking and drinking probably contributed greatly to my lack of height and the past 5-6 years sitting at my computer has given me a bit of a gut so I just plan to try and get my abs back and build my arms up a bit as I have lost a lot of muscle due to laziness and lack of physical labor due to my career change.

I definitely want to quit the cigarettes not just for the operation but just because I am fking over being a slave to chemicals  >:( in August this year i finally conquered my 15 year drinking problem and my 17 year cannabis addiction I have been drinking and smoking longer then that but my addiction to alcohol began at about 16 and my addiction to cannabis began at about 14 I pretty much replaced the Ritalin prescription i had since I was 9 years old with Cannabis and it was all down hill from there.. So these last 2 months are pretty much the only time since I was 9 that I have been sober.. And cigarettes is the last dragon left to slay before I am free i have been smoking since I was 13 so it's the hardest one but it will happen and very soon! after that I just plan to drink as much water as humanly possible without killing oneself and flush my body out from all the crap I have put into it over the years.. I have used harder drugs but very rarely and not for 3-4 years so that is not an issue just the chemicals from the cigarettes I need to rid my body of.

As I said to Ilovescience 12cm alone would be fkn life changing for me ;D I think i should tell the surgeon I want 12 minimum but if we can push it harder and further once we reach to 12 then lets do it and go as far as we can safely, God forbid if i could reach 17cm i might just do cartwheels out of the airport on the return home (haha maybe not after a procedure like this but the thought would be there) but at 17cm my proportions might look a bit weird my wingspan is only 163cm so that would be 18cm difference  :o maybe it wouldn't look that bad I am not sure but it's something I think about anyways aim for 12cm and if I hit 15cm it's a total blessing and anything more then 15 cm would be a miracle! If i could hit 173 cm barefoot with operation, yoga, correcting my posture I would consider myself blessed.. I would be normal.. I would blend in and not stand out and for that i would be so great full I don't want to be above average or below average I just want to be average :)

With the BTC I just need to work out a way I can pay for the surgery without having to put money in my bank account.. CGT tax in Australia is 40+ % and we are talking 80-90k AUD for this procedure so that is a lot of tax.. And it's something I need to think about but we do have have a incentive here in Australia to drive digital investment that allows for 15k per year tax free crypto earnings and because of the pandemic and me not really leaving the house I have been surviving on savings and have not really pulled any money out this year so If I pulled out 15k before December and then 15k in say march that would give me 30k tax free possibly but I would need to check as it might be 15k each financial year.. I also have a friend in the philippines who knows all sorts of crypto loop holes that I might be able to send the money too who could then pay for the surgery for me with the money i send him and I could pay him 10k on top of that to make it worth his time and avoid the tax man here.. I guess it just depends if the account I pay for the surgery from has to be connected to my name or needs to be verified to be mine? is there anyone here who has dealt with Giotikas and knows first hand about the payment process?

Thanks again for your answers and comments :)

@ilovescience
Increasing your muscle mass, results in increased stiffness and less flexibility. The more stuff you have in your room, means there's less space for you to move around. This is why body builders have extremely hard muscles and can't stretch at all.

@jay89
1) Quit substances (smoking, drinking, drugs)

2) Do LL

3) Stretch quad, hamstring, hip flexors, IT band (TFL)

4) Marry a tall women, so your kids will never face the difficulties you do

Yeah as I said I haven't used hard stuff in over 4 years and I am talking a bit of coke on a night out here and there maybe once every few months I was never really a hard drug user and have not drank or smoked weed since August

Any exercise equipment you suggest to get my leg muscles ready for the operation?

Yes I agree need to marry a tall woman lol couldn't put my kids thru what i did  ;D

Do you or anyone else knows when do you need to quit smoking pre-surgery? I know right now is ideal, but an answer would still be appreciated

Quite smoking immediately. Smoking significantly reduces your bone and soft tissue recovery rate. It also poses problems during anesthesia.

It's not about when. Don't do this procedure or any open wound surgery unless you have quit smoking or other substances.

Not only after the surgery, you should also quit smoking so when an accident happened to your legs, you can handle the injury easier.
